Lettering and illustration meet geometric patterns. My lettering work naturally gravitates towards a more illustrative approach. I like to surround the text with related imagery or enclose pictures within words. For this project, I wanted to explore ideas where the lettering took a backseat, allowing the illustrations to become the focus. I read an article saying that tea drinking is in decline. The patterns surround classic Roman style lettering that emphasise the vertical flow of the designs.

A William Morris influenced design with native Australian flowers. I was commissioned by design studio, Bit League. To produce an ornamental monogram for Kelmscott Bakehouse. The artisan bread and cake bakers practice traditional methods and use only locally sourced and sustainable ingredients. Their name is a reference to the renowned Kelmscott Press, founded by William Morris in 1891. Early stage sketches exploring the various letterforms. Bag mock-up by design studio, Bit League. Capturing the culture and spirit of Brighton with typography. To capture the culture and spirit of Brighton, I created a letterpress print that focusses on the arts and entertainment scene of the seaside city. The print charts the town’s rapid development as a cultural destination and describes its many attractions and events. Printed from a set of three large zinc plates, the result shows some of natural flaws and imperfections associated with letterpress. Limited edition of 100 prints. 640 x 425mm.
