The Bard School: August 2011
http://thebardschool.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 23 August 2011. The Four Winds - Quatro Vientos. What duty and chaos dulled. In the concrete world. To touch the softening earth. Opens the heart of worship. And our souls revive. Around us the storm. Dies as our peace is quickened. And the Spirit rests. What is our bard work for? Watering the thirsty ground. Drenching the hard earth. Softening the soil with storm. Till the Spirit leaps. The ground of your own being. And you touch the Lord. Posted by Sarah de Nordwall. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Blackwater Spring: October 2011
http://www.blackwaterspring.co.uk/2011_10_01_archive.html
Thoughts from a country lane. Sunday, 30 October 2011. Here's a nice way to use a glut of cucumbers - I found several when finally clearing away the summer detritus in the veg patch yesterday. They will have got tastier with every passing near-frost. I had the equivalent of about 4 normal-sized cucumbers, but the rest of the quantities below you will have to judge by taste, as I can only give rough guidelines. Obviously don't overdo the salt or gin,as the mixture will never freeze if you do! More or less...

Blackwater Spring: The Dandelion Cycle
http://www.blackwaterspring.co.uk/2011/04/dandelion-cycle.html
Thoughts from a country lane. Thursday, 7 April 2011. I bottled 5 out of my 8 demijohns of fruit wine from last year over the weekend - 30 bottles in all. Another 18 to go when I acquire some more bottles able to take corks. Sadly the dandelion had lost much of the vibrant yellow it had when first brewed, now being a pale straw colour rather like a sauvignon blanc. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Blackwater Spring: June 2010
http://www.blackwaterspring.co.uk/2010_06_01_archive.html
Thoughts from a country lane. Tuesday, 29 June 2010. The largest ever study done on the subject. Concludes that using the techniques of "agro-ecology" increases agicultural yields by nearly 80% on average. Agro-ecology" turns out to be a fangled name for good old-fashioned common-sense practices like (as reported by the Daily Telegraph) "planting trees and crops together, mixing livestock and arable farming and using natural predators to control pests and diseases". As another Telegraph article. I just s...

Blackwater Spring: August 2010
http://www.blackwaterspring.co.uk/2010_08_01_archive.html
Thoughts from a country lane. Tuesday, 31 August 2010. A nice variation on courgette soup. With varying degrees of buy-in from its highly carniverous membership, we have instituted a family meat-free day once a week. The logic for this move, at least as proposed by me, is a kind of equivalent of carbon offsetting - in this case an offset for the increase in meat-eating in developing countries. My citrus-in-omelettes prejudice arises from the single most disgusting dish I have ever cooked. This was a ...

Blackwater Spring: July 2010
http://www.blackwaterspring.co.uk/2010_07_01_archive.html
Thoughts from a country lane. Friday, 16 July 2010. Let there be Sourdough. I made my first sourdough bread last week. I used a Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall recipe. Which worked a treat. More or less random reflections on vegetable growing, cheese-making, beer and wine brewing, carpentry, cooking, cycling; occasionally linked in more or less irrelevant ways to my professional interests in international and community development finance and the environment.
