Jamie in Armenia

Monday, August 23, 2010. The world's oldest shoe and a snake pit: Weeks 8 and 9. My time in Armenia is coming close to an end now, and I think though it will be nice to get back to normal life I'll be very sad to leave. In terms of AIESEC work things are quite relaxed now, as I hand over to my replacement and get together the EB* for the next year. Over the last couple of weeks I've been up to a fair amount, so I'll try hard not to make this blog post too epic. Trip to the museum. Another one of the main...

Jamie in Armenia: Brit Pop and a Dog called Barks: Week 7

http://www.jamieinarmenia.blogspot.com/2010/08/brit-pop-and-dog-called-barks-week-7.html

Sunday, August 15, 2010. Brit Pop and a Dog called Barks: Week 7. This draft has been sitting on my laptop for a long time, just got it finished up so there will be more to follow! This week has again been fairly busy for AIESEC work, as we're getting to the stage where we need to have a full plan for the next year. However I've had a little bit of time to see the sights as well as a few other things. Last Sunday, after I got horribly sunburnt at Lake Sevan (it's pretty much all better now! The party was...

Jamie in Armenia: July 2010

http://www.jamieinarmenia.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html

Friday, July 30, 2010. The world's first Cathedral and the world's reddest Jamie: Weeks 5 and 6. I ran a session on AIESEC History, which meant actually learning the history. I'd definitely recommend AIESECers looking it up, it's quite a story. We had lots of games and things as well to keep the newies interested, and judging by the feedback everyone had a good time. Thanks to Ani, Zara, Lusine and Tatevik for helping out! As my time in Armenia is starting to come to an end (still got 4 weeks though!

Jamie in Armenia: June 2010

http://www.jamieinarmenia.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html

Tuesday, June 29, 2010. Breaking the silence: Days 4-7. Hi guys, sorry about not updating in a while, I've been fairly busy with AIESEC stuff. On Thursday. Day 4) I had to prepare a presentation for all the AIESECers in Armenia about the UK. So I spent the afternoon doing that. It went down quite well, and after I introduced them to a new AIESEC Dance:. After seeing the bank I went up to the AIESEC office to meet the MC* who gave me my brief for the summer. Some of the RAU members. I did a presentation, ...

Tuesday, July 6, 2010. Ancient Manuscripts and an Irish Pub: Week 2. Hi everyone, sorry again for infrequent posting, I've gotten out of the habit a little bit :(. This week has been fairly busy with lots of work on AIESEC RAU. We will be getting a shiny website in the next few weeks, and have been working hard promoting ourselves on Facebook and another Russian social networking site. So here is a photo of the outside of the building instead. More posts soon, I'm planning to finish off seeing the sights...

Dichohecho: ABC Cake

http://dichohecho.blogspot.com/2014/09/abc-cake.html

Ramblings and (hopefully) pretty pictures. Sunday, 14 September 2014. I can't remember where I found the recipe this is based on but I'm fairly sure it was one I found while trying to use up an enormous glut of courgettes. My Mum grows courgettes and apples so from August until the damn things die off we're inundated with them. Now I live away from my parents the effect on me is lessened but I still get the occasional vegetable delivery. I usually use brown sugar for the flavour. Cook time: 55-65 min.

Ramblings and (hopefully) pretty pictures. Saturday, 27 August 2011. Last week the whole of Nelson Street in central Bristol (UK) was shut off for a rather exciting project. Nelson Street is normally dull, grey and a bit manky - it's home to several nightclubs, a derelict magistrates court and the back of the police station - but someone had a good idea. More photos will eventually end up on Flickr but I don't see that happening for a while yet. There's a dedicated group. Links to this post. Shopping Gui...

It's seductively simple to post a photo from my Flickr on there. Sorry Blogger. Dichohecho: October 2014

http://dichohecho.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

Ramblings and (hopefully) pretty pictures. Tuesday, 7 October 2014. White Bean and Chorizo Chilli with Cornbread (and Avocado Smush). Golden cornbread and golden sunshine. First thing's first - this would probably be a very tasty bowlful without the chorizo and it is easy to omit. However if you are a chorizo fan I hope you will appreciate this very excellent way of cooking it - it seems to stay "juicier" (ew) and more distinct than if it were allowed to sink into the stew. Juice of half a lime. Combine ...

Ramblings and (hopefully) pretty pictures. Saturday, 23 October 2010. Back in September the lovely Niall. Came down at the weekend and we had a little expedition to Hestercombe. There's a house and gardens but the house is private. The gardens are split into two parts; the landscaped valley and the formal terraced garden. I've been there plenty of times as it's near my house but Niall hadn't so we explored pretty thoroughly. There are lots of walls like this. An old mill with a waterwheel. I don't normal...

Ramblings and (hopefully) pretty pictures. Saturday, 20 November 2010. This has been a while coming, but here's the next installment of new camera at Hestercombe. See my previous post. For some explanation of what Hestercombe is. I went with the lovely Niall. View down into the formal garden from the round pond (with a Niall in). Niall's photo, up into the water feature. False orange blossom, it smells lovely. A long rhene edged with stone. Lovely red Virginia creeper. More lovely creeper overhead.

Ramblings and (hopefully) pretty pictures. Friday, 2 January 2015. Slow Cooked Brisket and Coriander Slaw. This is essentially my attempt to bring Grillstock. Home We may not have the ridiculous barbecue apparatus (or the weather and wood chips for operating it) but we do have a slow cooker and access to CostCo's meat section. Smashed together with reckless abandon from Tom Kerridge's Pulled Beef Brisket In A Milk Bun. And BBC Good Food's Pulled Firecracker Brisket. Beef - ready to go. We did 5h on low, ...
