Jammin thru the Continental Divide: Ride Report: Day 1 - 3

http://jammincdr.blogspot.com/2009/10/ride-report-day-1-3.html

Ride Report: Day 1 - 3. Day 1 / Friday, August 28, 2009. Staying awake till 2 am every night the week before still didn't allow me to finish all my tasks that I had planned for the trip and the night before leaving, after 3 am, I decided it was going to be an all-nighter. Day 2 / Saturday, August 29, 2009. Going past Fargo on I-94, the feeling of being far away from civilization started to set in. As much as I feel that I'm a product on my times, this accelerated global society, the allure of cutting...

Jammin thru the Continental Divide: Ride Report: Day 10

http://jammincdr.blogspot.com/2009/10/ride-report-day-10.html

Ride Report: Day 10. Day 10 / Sunday, September 6, 2009. Packing up with Hahns Peak in view, after waiting an hour in our tents for the morning rain to end. Heading south to Steamboat Springs. Riding into Steamboat, where we dried our gear before heading off on the trail. I'd like to come and ski here someday, to taste some of their famous champagne powder snow. mmm. All this pavement is killing my knobbies. Rain clouds up ahead. Riding around Lake Catamount. Mike on his XR, heading down towards Radium.

Jammin thru the Continental Divide: Ride Report: Day 15

http://jammincdr.blogspot.com/2009/10/ride-report-day-15.html

Ride Report: Day 15. Day 15 / Friday, September 11, 2009. As I neared the Mexican border, I reflected on the fact that I had traveled from the Canadian border down the spine of the Rockies through beautiful wilderness and enjoyed a good ten days on the Continental Divide. After taking the obligatory picture at the border, I crossed into Mexico for lunch at Las Palomas. From the Canadian border to the Mexican border along the Continental Divide of the USA. Done. After a delicious lunch, I headed east to C...

Jammin thru the Continental Divide: Ride Report: Day 6

http://jammincdr.blogspot.com/2009/10/ride-report-day-6.html

Ride Report: Day 6. Day 6 / Wednesday, September 2, 2009. It was a chilly night, but I slept comfortably and was glad to see my cold weather sleeping gear worked as planned. The silk sleeping bag liner I made, with stitching help from a friend, worked as expected as silk is a great natural insulator. The space blanket worked well but since it doesn't breathe too well, condensation formed on the inside surface. Sun rising over Grasshopper Creek to begin a beautiful day. Rushing water in the creek. I had a...

Jammin thru Alaska: Ride Report: Day 8

http://jamminak.blogspot.com/2008/09/ride-report-day-8.html

Ride Report: Day 8. Day 8 / Thursday, June 19, 2008. I was woken up by a herd of crows that were trying to get my oatmeal packets open. This was the view from my tent at about 5 am local time. John Jacques Caux, one of the great frontiersmen of the day that opened up interior BC. One thing I didn't expect was the numerous long, long straight sections of highway, where a throttle lock would've been handy to relieve my right wrist. I was waiting to cross the Rockies further up ahead for some good ridin...

Jammin thru Alaska: Ride Report: Day 4

http://jamminak.blogspot.com/2008/09/ride-report-day-4.html

Ride Report: Day 4. Day 4 / Sunday, June 15, 2008. In the morning, I met a group of riders on BMW R1200GS's who had stayed the night and were reuniting after they had all gone on one of Helge Pedersen's GlodeRiders tours from Turkey into China the year before. They told me I should set up a touring company in India, because people like them would love to come and tour through there. That's an idea. An outdoor stage where bands perform during the rallies and the huge campfire ring besides it. Being a Sund...

Jammin thru Alaska: Ride Report: Day 14 - 16

http://jamminak.blogspot.com/2008/09/ride-report-day-14-16.html

Ride Report: Day 14 - 16. Day 14 / Wednesday, June 25, 2008. I said good-bye to Steve as he was headed for his service appointment and thanked him for all his help. His travelogue is located at taxidialogue.com. And voila, I made it back to civilization. The bike was sputtering and not sounding very good towards the end of the night. I figured water in the fuel system was the main culprit. We went straight for the car wash after buying some Calcium, Lime and Rust remover from a nearby store. Getting her ...

Jammin thru Alaska: Ride Report: Day 5 - 6

http://jamminak.blogspot.com/2008/09/ride-report-day-5-6.html

Ride Report: Day 5 - 6. Day 5 / Monday, June 16, 2008. One fuel container was beyond repair and Claude said I could add it to his collection of damaged fuel containers. It made me feel better when he said he had the same kind of containers for his off road trips and they didn't last very long either. Day 6 / Tuesday, June 17, 2008. I collected my passport with my new US visa in there and was now ready to start my journey north. The only other scheduled item on my trip was trying to make it to the Dus...

Jammin thru Alaska: Final Preparations

http://jamminak.blogspot.com/2008/06/final-preparations.html

Taking an adjustable walking cane and making it an adjustable bike stand. I would need this to lift up the rear tire so that I could repair it any punctures and it would also work for the front. Being aluminum, it's very light weight and it cost only around $10 and about two hours of my labor. Cutting some steel at Rick's garage for my bike stand. The nozzle from the oiler is setup to release a drop of oil every minute that the engine is running and centrifugal force helps spread the oil around the chain...

Jammin thru Alaska: Ride Report: Day 10

http://jamminak.blogspot.com/2008/09/ride-report-day-10.html

Ride Report: Day 10. Day 10 / Saturday, June 21, 2008. In the morning, on our way out, we got a glimpse of the old gold rush town before crossing the mighty Yukon River to catch the Top of the World Highway heading to Alaska. This highway in the wilderness goes from Dawson City in the Yukon across into Alaska and joins the Taylor Highway that takes you through Chicken down to the Alaska Highway. A gravel grader with some colorful buildings. Enjoying the short ferry ride. Taking a break before the border.

Jammin thru Alaska: Ride Report: Day 7

http://jamminak.blogspot.com/2008/09/ride-report-day-7.html

Ride Report: Day 7. Day 7 / Wednesday, June 18, 2008. If anyone thinks I'm carrying too much, check this out. That's a trike with a trailer and I've see those trailers expand into very comfortable accommodations. I love the comforts of a 5-star hotel all the way down to slumming it in a McDonald’s bathroom. Haha. And there's nothing better than feeling nice and refreshed before sitting down for a meal. The DR's alternator is only rated at 200 watts and knowing that I might have to run both the heated ves...
