Thursday, May 18, 2006. My goal has never been to 'loose weight'. JeffLivesHere: Philosophy Edition: April 2006

http://www.jeffliveshere-philosophy.blogspot.com/2006_04_01_archive.html

Friday, April 14, 2006. I've hunted and hunted for the exact quote, but I've lost my "The Myth of Sisyphus" book, so I'll just paraphrase Camus. (I mean, what's the point of being an existentialist philosopher if you don't have people misquoting and oversimplifying your points, really? He notes that it isn't people that are absurd, or the world that is absurd, but our relationship to the world that is absurd. I'm sure Camus had some deep reasons for thinking this (if he did! But the thing is this: This is.

JeffLivesHere: Philosophy Edition

http://www.jeffliveshere-philosophy.blogspot.com/2006/04/opinions-and-arguments-for-relatively.html

Tuesday, April 11, 2006. For the relatively brief time that I was a student teacher and a teaching assistant, I began to recognize a recurring theme in discussions. It's possible that this theme came up more often because these classes were generally philosophy classes, but I also notice this trend in just discussing stuff with people in non-academic-only life. But It's Opinions All the Way Down. Opinion and Truth Come Connected to Lotsa Stuff. The arbiter of truth may be a complex question, but all that...

http://www.jeffliveshere-philosophy.blogspot.com/2006/04/irony-thinking-insessantly-about.html

Thursday, April 06, 2006. Irony: Thinking Insessantly About Whether I Think Too Much. K asked me recently in a comment whether I sometimes wonder if I think to much. And then, because of the inherent irony in asking the question, really- should I just answer off the cuff, like in a rorschach test, or should I think about my answer? Another possible irony: The answers to this question (to me) are so intricate and lengthy that even writing an answer to it is going to take some time. 5 Start to become annoy...

JeffLivesHere: Philosophy Edition

http://www.jeffliveshere-philosophy.blogspot.com/2006/03/closet-buddhist-ive-been-told-several.html

Sunday, March 26, 2006. I stumbled across an interview with Sharon Salzberg. Who has written some books on the subject of faith in general- from but it seems not completely limited by her own Buddhist perspective. One of the things she said struck me as particularly meaningful to my present situation, as well as a strong sense of empathy that I got when I read somthing k recently talked about in her blog. Not sure. But it does. Posted by Jeff Pollet at 7:53 PM. View my complete profile.

JeffLivesHere: Health: May 2006

http://jeffliveshere-health.blogspot.com/2006_05_01_archive.html

Friday, May 26, 2006. And that's when I figured out that what was happening was that my contacts were drying my eyes out, which my brain was interpreting as he needs sleep. When I changed brands and started using eyedrops, no more sleepyhead. In fact, I sometimes still use eyedrops to wake up. So, it's kind of like method acting, except unintentional. All of these things are difficult to describe. Pehraps I can get better at describing it as time goes on. What to do about it? Thursday, May 18, 2006.

JeffLivesHere- Comics as Life. Tuesday, May 23, 2006. Real Men Are Cowboys! And Use Cell Phones! At any rate, I think it sometimes delves beneath the surface of family/friends stuff. But then sometimes it just gets smarmy as heck. And last week's strips made me cringe. It was like seeing a whole slew of comedians whose whole acts were "Isn't it funny how men do X and women do Y? But rather with a sort of 'well, boys will be boys' attitude; a wink and a nudge. See, don't those men look funny! I love findi...

Wednesday, April 19, 2006. On Blaming, and Being, The Patriarchy. My recent discussion with Alexis. Reminded me of how some people see me and how, because of this, I sometimes see myself. The basic idea is this: I have been told (accused? And it's not a far reach for me or for others to think this. I don't like being a bad guy- who does? That ally, and for trying to find justice as regards sexism. I think) who is self-identified as a lesbian, because that caricature of a character hits close enough to ho...

Thursday, July 20, 2006. I guess what I'm facing is that I'm hitting something of a wall as far as my progress visually goes- and that wall is making me feel more body (self-)conscous, not less. And again, that doesn't feel particularly healthy, emotionally. I've started to change my relationship to my body, and I'm not entirely happy with the new relationship. It may be too much of a change of lifestyle for me to really do it. Or maybe I'll do it slow and steady? Posted by Jeff Pollet at 7:03 AM. I have...
