Because when the KMT hightailed it to Taiwan, they took it with em! This piece blew me away! It's a hunk of rock (jasper) that an ancient sculptor made to look like a slab of braised pork. Wednesday, May 25, 2005. Laguardia USA is a little breakfast joint that is Western-Style in the way that is only possible in Asia. Flat breakfast sandwiches with choice of ham, pork, bacon, or "black pepper ham." Greasy, porkalicious, and bearing no resemblance to anything found at Laguardia airport, NYC, or anywhere in the Western hemisphere. We didn't stop in at either the Guilo (foreign barbarian) Italian jeans store or Camp David Coffee Shop, but you get the idea. Yup, we're having a good time here!

Tuesday, May 24, 2005. The hospital was clean, fast, efficient, and inexpensive (1256 NT for everything, about $40 US). And the most unbelievable thing - the staff were friendly and spoke enough English that we weren't confused about what was going on. I don't even get that in an American hospital. And this is a normal Taiwanese hospital in the boondocks, no cushy "hospital for foreigners" in Taipei. Yes, despite China's protests, Taiwan is DEFINITELY its own country.
