Never Not Reading: October 2010
http://nevernotreading.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
Review: Speed of the Dark by Elizabeth Moon. I first discovered Elizabeth Moon almost a decade ago when I read " Sporting Chance. Since then, I've enjoyed several of her books, but I don't think I ever really appreciated what a gifted writer she is until I read "The Speed of the Dark.". Initially, I was somewhat hesitant to read this book as it didn't sound like a standard science fiction offering. The novel tells the story of Lou Arrendale. Review: Speed of the Dark by Elizabeth Moon. I loved this book!

Review: Unwind by Neil Shusterman. Fiction, Young Adult. Read by Luke Daniels. Reading Challenges: 5 for 100 in 2010. 1 of 20 for the Twenty in Ten Reading Challenge. It's been a few weeks since I finished this book, but I just can't stop thinking about it. This is a book that forces you to think hard about some serious issues, yet it is also pretty much a non-stop thrill ride. What I found especially interesting about this novel, is that Shusterman. Review: Unwind by Neil Shusterman. I loved this produc...
Never Not Reading: Divergent by Veronica Roth
http://nevernotreading.blogspot.com/2011/07/divergent-by-veronica-roth.html
Divergent by Veronica Roth. Reading Format: Audio Book Read by Emma Galvin. It seems unfair to me to judge a book in comparison with another, but in this case I just can't help myself. It would have been impossible for me to read this novel without comparing it with each turn of the page to the fabulous Hunger Games series written by Susan Collins. Certainly, the Hunger Games sets a high standard indeed, and Divergent didn't quite measure up to it in my opinion. Which is what I was really yearning for...
Never Not Reading: April 2009

Review: The Help by Kathryn Stockett. Genre: Historical Fiction, US Civil Rights Movement, Mississippi, Racial Discrimination . Reading Challenges: 17 for 100 in 2009. First novel paints a vivid portrait of a way of life which, thankfully, no longer exists, but did once, and not so very long ago. The novel begins in 1962, and is set in Jackson, Mississippi. The experiences of three very different women are the focus of the novel. Aibileen. US Civil Rights Movement. This is truly a forgotten classic...

Never Not Reading: October 2009

Review: Bleak History by John Shirley. Genre: Paranormal, Thriller. Reading Challenges: 40 for 100 in 2009. It has been a difficult past few months, and my reading time has certainly suffered. It's difficult for me to decide how to review my last few reads. I was literally plodding through the same three books for most of the last three months, which I found to be very frustrating. This frustration may have carried over to the books in question ( North and South, Bleak History. I haven't read many books ...

Jenn's Busy House
Thursday, May 29, 2014. It absolutely sends me around the bend when adults judge and/or write off kids. Aren't all children really works in progress? Isn't that kind of the entire point of 'childhood'? Aren't kids also, generally speaking, products of their environments? If a child has a disorder of some sort and less than ideal life circumstances, life has already kicked them while they are down. Why are there adults that still feel they need further 'kicks'? For these kids, it's much easier to not try ...
