Follow my adventures in the world of jaw surgery (orthognathic surgery). I had a Bilateral Sagittal Split Osteotomy (bsso) and a 2 piece LeFort 1 widening my upper jaw. My oral surgeon also reduce my gummy smile by making my upper jaw 5mm shorter and pushing it up and back, tilting it and pushing my lower jaw back 3mm. Apparently I had an overjet AND an underbite. Wednesday, November 30, 2011. Well, tonight he showed me the molds he did surgey on and they looked awesome! My Dr used this contraption minus the molds to measure my head and different points of my face to see where to put my molds when he did the mock surgery. Pretty weird. Tuesday, January 10, 2012. Day 41 SPLINT IS GONE! An awesome thing happened today. I got my splint out! He was surprised that I didn't. That was a pretty gross visual and I couldn't wait to brush my teeth to make sure he was right. He told me I could brush my teeth and he would see me in 3 months. Woo hoo! Here is my fun splint. BaliGirl's Jaw Surgery Saga. Thursday, January 26, 2012. Just saw my surgeon for my 4 week checkup and everything looks good. My range of motion is now 40 mm and he said that's right on track and maybe a little better than most (he was probably just being nice, but I'll take it! The BEST news, however, is that he made an appointment to remove my splint in 2 weeks. Yippee! After the splint is removed I will go straight from his office to my orthodontist to have a new continuous wire made for my upper teeth.

On Dec 5 I went for my second braces adjustment, and I had a pretty great day! My Orthodontist group travel down to another town once a month - and it just happens to be half way between their usual office, and my home town - YAY!
