When the cloud enveloped Mr. Shiftlet's car and he felt that the slime of the world was around him, that seemed very ironic since he was the lying, cheating scum of the world. The cloud might have represented his conscience, since being covered by it caused him to call out to the Lord to save him. But then when it passed, he went on like nothing ever happened. TGOST Ch. 9 and 10. Present day, Rahel is watching toads, yet another "small thing" as she thinks about the day that she, Estha, and Sophie Mol went to visit Velutha, and how good he treated them. She mentioned that he was nothing like the parents, that he did not judge them or anything. He was just himself, and he let everyone be themselves also. TGOST Ch. 19 and 20. I really do not like baby at all! The part at the train station is very sad because this is the last time the two will see each other, but they do not know it. "I'll be home for you soon" is said, and we know this is not true, so it is very sad. There are also some things that happened in this chapter that I found quite disturbing, and I will just leave it at that. It's sad how everyone is split up at the end, but the way this novel was going, you sort of had to know it was coming?
