El Jibaro Gringo: Election Results
http://jibarogringo.blogspot.com/2008/11/election-results.html
The true story of an Italian-American living in the mountains of Puerto Rico. Thursday, November 6, 2008. I took voting this year far more seriously than I have in the past, perhaps because when I lived in Massachusetts the outcome was fairly certain before the voting even started. Things did not turn out exactly the way I wanted, but I'm proud to have voted in my first Puerto Rican election. I understand the frustration of the Puerto Rican people. The economy sucks, and job opportunities, particular...
El Jibaro Gringo: Robbery
http://jibarogringo.blogspot.com/2007/10/robery.html
The true story of an Italian-American living in the mountains of Puerto Rico. Sunday, October 21, 2007. I haven't posted in a while, mostly because of my pesky new job, but today is different. Our next-door neighbor, Don Pablo, was robbed today. He was out of the house at the time, and someone broke in and stole $9,000 in cash, a pile of jewlery, and who knows what else. They ripped off the iron bars from one of the windows to get in. They did it in broad daylight. They killed his dog. I welcome your com...

The true story of an Italian-American living in the mountains of Puerto Rico. Monday, May 19, 2008. The Fortress of Solitude. Our next-door neighbor is just over 80 years old, and a little on the flaky side. A few years ago, he had his house built by the best builder in Aguas Buenas, and it was beautiful. Since then, he's been systematically ruining the place. He's forever putting up new additions and generally destroying the architectural features that made this a lovely house. El Jibaro Gringo: July 2008
http://jibarogringo.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html
The true story of an Italian-American living in the mountains of Puerto Rico. Thursday, July 31, 2008. It's almost over; school starts next week. Summers here are almost unbearable. The kids are home from school, and they are loud. The 14 year old girl next door loves her regeaton, and she loves it loud. She plays the same handfull of songs every day, several times a day. These are the songs they play at Guantanamo Bay to make the prisioners confess to crimes they did not commit. View my complete profile.

Food thoughts from Puerto Rico. Enter your search terms. I love artichokes. I stuff them the way mom always did: equal parts bread crumbs and parmesan cheese, and a couple of cloves of minced garlic. I use Progresso seasoned bread crumbs (it's good enough for mom, so it's good enough for me), so there's no need for additional seasoning. Cut off the stems so the artichokes sit flat, and trim the sharp points off the larger leaves. Stuff each artichoke, and drizzle with a tablespoon of olive oil. Bake at 3...

Food thoughts from Puerto Rico. Enter your search terms. Last night, we had one of my favorites, bacalao guisado. Guisado is Spanish for stew. For a picture and recipe, see Rican Recipies. What my mother-in-law makes is very similar to this, except that she serves avocado and panas. Both from our finca. On the side instead of tostones, and she used canned tomatoes. Pan de Luis Redux. After exchanging email with my online buddy, Chef Bob del Grosso. I modified the first attempt at Pan de Luis. Cover with ...
Cocina Luis: Tomato Sauce
http://cocinaluis.blogspot.com/2007/05/tomato-sauce.html
Food thoughts from Puerto Rico. Enter your search terms. I make two basic tomato sauces: a simple one without meat for pizza, calzones, and nearly anything else you can think of, and a long-cooking meat sauce for pasta. I make a very simple tomato sauce for pizza:. 2 28 ounce cans whole, peeled tomatoes. 6 cloves garlic, minced. 1 large onion, minced. Heat the oil and add the onion and garlic to soften. Do not brown. Add the tomatoes, and break them up with a fork. Add salt and pepper to taste. 1 tablesp...

Cocina Luis: Pizza Dough
http://cocinaluis.blogspot.com/2008/04/pizza-dough-redux.html
Food thoughts from Puerto Rico. Enter your search terms. I've been making pizza dough for years. It's great for pizza, of course, but it's also great for calzones, bread sticks, and plain old bread. I've always made the dough by hand in the past, but since I make it much more often, and in larger quantities, I use my KitchenAid with the dough hook. I also weigh all ingredients (as opposed to volume measurements). It's more accurate and repeatable, and it's actually easier. 3 grams SAF instant yeast.
Cocina Luis: Hell's Kitchen: Spanish TV
http://cocinaluis.blogspot.com/2008/07/hells-kitchen-spanish-tv.html
Food thoughts from Puerto Rico. Enter your search terms. Hell's Kitchen: Spanish TV. I live in Puerto Rico, so I get Spanish TV. They broadcast in English,. With Spanish subtitles. They do not censor. I watched Hell's Kitchen last night. I've seen this episode before on American TV; but there it was:. Idiot I'm not serving this bleep. On Spanish TV it's the much more refreshing:. You fucking idiot. I'm not serving this shit". I can take this language. I worked in a factory. Mon Oct 25, 01:56:00 AM.

The true story of an Italian-American living in the mountains of Puerto Rico. Thursday, April 29, 2010. HR 2499 - Puerto Rico Democracy Act Scam. In last election, Fortuño was elected governor. He was the Republican candidate: here, that means pro-statehood. So suppose you were pro-statehood, and you wanted to rig an election in your favor. Here's how, using a brilliant ice cream analogy of my own design. 1 Do you want chocolate? The people say no! Surprise, vanilla wins! Thursday, November 6, 2008.
