Acorus

http://johnjearrard.co.uk/plants/acorus/genus.html

I grew up in a world where Acorus. Was included as an odd member of the Araceae, but it has now been moved to a family or its very own, all by itself in the Acoraceae! It is now thought to be the oldest surviving line of monocots. I grow a lot of names of Acorus. Though I am not convinced they are all distinct. Many of the cultivars of Acorus gramineus. These are the names I grow, make up your own mind!

Arisaema

http://johnjearrard.co.uk/plants/arisaema/genus.html

Are a wonderful group of tuberous aroids, slow to wake up in the spring, and not all of them are fully hardy, but there is a fascination about them that keeps me trying new species. I prefer to grow them from seed where possible, but it can be a slow business. Arisaema ciliatum v liubaense. Arisaema triphyllum v stewardsonii.

3

Clivia

http://johnjearrard.co.uk/plants/clivia/genus.html

I am finding Clivia. More and more appealing with every passing year. At present, plants from Chinese, Japanese, Australian, American and South African breeders are all appearing on the market, and the genus is developing in leaps and bounds. I have a few plants, and I am buying seed from the best breeders as it becomes available, so with luck there will be some good seedlings coming up! Clivia (caulescens x miniata). Clivia (gardenii x miniata). Clivia miniata var citrina. Daruma Monk Hybrid '.

Great collection of plants. Extensive eclectic list of plants. Astonishing modern plant hunters. Derry Watkins Special Plants. A nursery that does what it says on the sign. The delightful Derry Watkins and her special plants. Streptocarpus and other wonders. I admire their achievements immensely. Very wide range of plants .

Wildflowers of North America. Cuteness alert Clinopodium arkansanum. August 11, 2016. Wildflowers of North America. Limestone calamint (syn. Calamintha, Satureja). Some may have noticed that I’m in love with little plants; I like them even more when they are fragrant! Clinopodium arkansanum – Limestone calamint. Will release an aromatic minty wave into the air; also an ID help when not in flower 😉. Fortunately, I managed to collect a few this time! Too cute not to have it! August 3, 2016. Salvia vertici...

Wildflowers Monday – Jeffersonia diphylla – Botanically Inclined – Seed Adventures

http://botanicallyinclined.org/jeffersonia-diphylla-twinleaf

Wildflowers of North America. Wildflowers Monday – Jeffersonia diphylla. May 18, 2015. In Wildflowers of North America. Jeffersonia diphylla Twinleaf, Rheumatism root (Fam. Berberidaceae). It is easily distinguished by the bluish-green two-lobed leaves that gave both its Latin and common names. Think of them as green butterflies topped up in the spring by large white flowers resembling those of the bloodroot (Sanguinaria canadensis). Awesome combination! Named in honour of US President Thomas Jefferson, ...

the Transylvanian gardener: January 2017

http://razvanchisu.blogspot.com/2017_01_01_archive.html

Thoughts on traveling, gardens, plants and more. Sunday, 1 January 2017. Plant highlights of 2016. Quite a cliche but on the first day of 2017 I am looking back at the year that's just gone and my highlights in chronological order are:. No year should be without at least one pilgrimage to Cornwall, one of my favourite places in the UK for amazing plants and gardens, and as we discovered this year in Mevagissey, scrumptious food. RHS Chelsea Flower Show in May. My plant of 2016. Must be Berkheya purpurea.

Thoughts on traveling, gardens, plants and more. Sunday, 21 February 2016. Plants and castles in Transylvania. I must admit I have always been rather proud of my Transylvanian heritage. "The land beyond the forests" as terra ultra silvam. Translates is still a haven for wildlife and this talk I am preparing now is an attempt to make our plants and landscapes better known to the UK plant and garden enthusiasts. There are few things more fun than learning to play an instrument or hearing a new piece of music that you just composed! I can still remember how excited I was to play my first solo in jazz band all the way back in middle school! And my passion for music has only grown over the years. I started teaching private music lessons for that very reason – to pass on the joy and exhilaration of learning music to my students, whether younger or older!
