Live Pronto!: May 2015
http://livepronto.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Monday, May 11, 2015. A Few Last Moments In The Kitchen, Umbria. Still here for a few more minutes….which means a few more bites. I do enjoy making a simple meal…and have had some good opportunities with some great ingredients! Take some locally baked bread, a few olives and good local pecorino cheese….You have a lunch to write home about! No, I didn't make this bounty. A wonderful local baker did. Thanks, Lia! Just add olives, marmalade and pecorino.A perfect lunch. Roasted with garlic, of course. I'm j...
Live Pronto!: June 2015

Sunday, June 21, 2015. A Few Garden Moments (and a small rant) June 2015. Back in the day, even though I knew better, I prided myself on the 'Big Moments' in my garden. Sure, lots of splash and color, but oh boy. 8230;did I use water. Lots of water. It did look kind of awesome, though…. I must admit. Just one of several walls of roses… now no more. I mean, I try. Really. But. I always feel guilty watering as much as I do. Even back then. Now it's the same drill- the water saving stuff- but on steroids.

Thursday, July 23, 2015. A Few Garden "Fricks".And More. A zillion years ago I worked at the Carmel Valley Begonia Gardens. I knew that I loved plants, and had a bedroom that was not unlike a jungle. I would visit the Begonia Gardens anytime I had a little extra cash, just to see what new houseplants were available. Because I am so very fond of variegated plants, I will sooner or later see something odd begin in my own little garden…my own little "fricks" to love and admire. This is so cool…. I am always...

Sunday, March 30, 2014. First Step…Don't Ruin That Ruin. A good weather day. To be honest, everyday should be a good weather day for a plein air artist. But hey, I'm also on vacation! This ruin looks good to me. It's in an area close to home, near the lake, and it's beautiful. The simple "block" Italian architecture appeals and has a unique presence on the landscape. Also, the color of the stone and the brick expresses something very warm and is a great contrast to the greens of the trees and fields.

Saturday, January 11, 2014. 2014 - "Great Expectations". I will start this 2014 blog with my last painting of 2013. Just finished near the end of December. The title is "Perugia", six feet by six feet, oil on canvas. This is, I believe, a transitional piece. My painting style is continuing to evolve. I guess it could be represented as a sort of grand abstract expressionist. An important part of the painting is to express the process involved. I try to make every inch of the canvas surface interesting.

Tuesday, March 24, 2015. Art House, Bagno Vignoni. Janelle and I enjoy discovering and exploring venues with contemporary art while we travel, and we have been pleasantly surprised to find a few gems here in our area of Umbria, as well as close by in Tuscany. An example is Art House. In Bagno Vignoni, Tuscany. It's not far, and a beautiful drive. The inhabitants of Bagno Vignoni have helped created the "Art House", a permanent exhibition space in his honor, because he lived here. Some of the works are by...

Gallery Apodaca Blog: September 2013

Tuesday, September 24, 2013. This trip to Venice is much more about seeing art than making art. Though both are equally important to the artist. The artist has to be a sponge, and absorb intuitively.everything around him. The Venice Biennale always has a treasure trove of inspiration. But so does hearing the bells in the Campo, or watching children play with their grandparents. All the unexpected moments that one sees, hears and feels. All these things are distilled in the studio back home. It's the magi...

Gallery Apodaca Blog: Another Point Of View
http://galleryapodacablog.blogspot.com/2015/05/another-point-of-view.html
Saturday, May 2, 2015. Another Point Of View. Janelle writing here today…. A couple of weeks ago, on a nice sunny day, Johnny and I hit the road with everything we needed for a few hours painting (him) and reading/photo taking (me). The temperatures have been more cool than warm this year, so any day that's sunny, warm and not windy is a day for painting…often a long day. I will bring something to read, and also something small to munch on, just in case. A good spot to paint. A very nice day, indeed.

Gallery Apodaca Blog: First Oil Paintings: Umbria 2015
http://galleryapodacablog.blogspot.com/2015/04/first-oil-paintings-umbria-2015.html
Monday, April 6, 2015. First Oil Paintings: Umbria 2015. Woke to a beautiful day a week or so ago, so we drove around looking for a good spot to start painting. This is looking west towards Tuscany, in an area I have painted before. There are many Etruscan tombs in this area. There was a flock of sheep down below me, so I was serenaded by their bells the whole time I was painting. Laying in color. No drawing, just direct painting. This spot was good for two paintings on this day. Checking out oil paint o...

Sunday, May 25, 2014. More Work From Umbria 2014. Janelle writing here…. Just going through photos, now that we are back in California. We had some troubles with the laptop, so I was not able to post anything the last couple of weeks in Umbria. Fortunately, after a week in hospital, the computer is back, and we can now access the iPhoto library…whew. We are still waiting for a delivery of 2 larger canvases, which were shipped several days before we left Umbria. This will be a new experience for us. Here,...

Dispatches from war and culture. Posted by Johnny Antora. Some reflections about the people I got to know in the war in Bosnia, via old video films shot by ARBiH 7. Corps cameramen. The first is from the village of Turbe where my wing man and I were wounded. The video shows our troops advancing to attack enemy lines. During a brief lull in the shelling some of the fighters stop to display weapons they have captured from the enemy positions:. I don’t think so. Did they deserve any better? Casagrande has a...
