http://johnschoenherr.blogspot.com/2013/04/city-under-sea.html
A blog devoted to the life and work of artist John Schoenherr (1935-2010). Saturday, April 6, 2013. City Under the Sea. Here's a paperback cover my dad was commissioned to do in December 1964 for Paul W. Fairman's City Under the Sea. Pyramid Publications, Inc., R-1162, April 1965). The novel wasn't connected to the City Under the Sea. Movie of 1965, but was a TV tie-in to the Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. Series on ABC, which, in turn, was based on the 1961 Irwin Allen movie. April 26, 2013 at 12:11 AM.

A blog devoted to the life and work of artist John Schoenherr (1935-2010). Sunday, September 25, 2011. Although I knew that some of Dad’s pictures inspired certain other things. I didn’t realize that one of his early science fiction covers seems to have inspired a toy or two. So I was happy to share some background information and sketches with the blogger who alerted me. Now, prepare for liftoff to Moonbase Central. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.
John Schoenherr: Space Man, A Stand Up Comic
http://johnschoenherr.blogspot.com/2013/04/space-man-stand-up-comic.html
A blog devoted to the life and work of artist John Schoenherr (1935-2010). Tuesday, April 23, 2013. Space Man, A Stand Up Comic. Another long-lost, early John Schoenherr illustration has come to light, thanks to the work log that I found a few weeks ago: it's the cover for issue #3 of the comic book Space Man. Published by Dell in 1962. It's job #225 in the log, which shows that Dell commissioned him on February 7, 1962, and paid him $200 on April 17. The original painting - wherever it is! Simple templa...
John Schoenherr: 50 Years of Dune

A blog devoted to the life and work of artist John Schoenherr (1935-2010). Wednesday, August 7, 2013. 50 Years of Dune. Is purported to have said that John Schoenherr was “the only man who has ever visited Dune.”*. Starting with the December 1963 issue. Schoenherr’s expense ledger also shows that on August 7, he took the subway from Queens to the Analog. With his “square block of a head with purple lips and drooping mustache, the diamond tattoo of Imperial Conditioning on his forehead, the long bla...

Ian Schoenherr: NYC for NYU
http://ianschoenherr.blogspot.com/2013/08/nyc-for-nyu.html
Sunday, August 18, 2013. I did this booklet cover for New York University a while back. It’s, as usual, in ink and acrylic on paper and I was deliberately trying to mimic a pictorial style that I recalled from childhood: maybe the artwork on boxes for German-made tin toys? Ian Schoenherr: The Twistrose Key’s Winter Jacket
http://ianschoenherr.blogspot.com/2014/01/the-twistrose-keys-winter-jacket.html
Wednesday, January 8, 2014. The Twistrose Key’s Winter Jacket. Looking through an old notebook, I see that I made my first sketches for the jacket of Tone Almhjell’s The Twistrose Key. On February 4, 2012 - a good 20 months before the novel was published. At first, the jacket was to be winter-themed, with a snowy landscape surrounded by a border printed in blue, silver, and black, and evocative of late 19th Century publishers’ bindings. Next, I placed snowflakes within the (erroneous) bows of the keys - ...

Ian Schoenherr: Revisiting Illustrations
http://ianschoenherr.blogspot.com/2013/12/revisiting-illustrations.html
Wednesday, December 18, 2013. I used to think that it was a sin to rework an illustration after it had been published. But there’s plenty of historical precedence for post-publication alterations: Howard Pyle. For example, did a lot of picture-tweaking for a variety of reasons (some of which I discussed here. So, I wondered, if a book is out of print with no real chance of being revived, why not. Revisit its illustrations in hopes of breathing new life into them? I decided to do a little experiment.
Ian Schoenherr: Fishing Pig (after George Caleb Bingham)
http://ianschoenherr.blogspot.com/2013/06/fishing-pig-after-george-caleb-bingham.html
Saturday, June 22, 2013. Fishing Pig (after George Caleb Bingham). I love pigs and I love George Caleb Bingham. So I combined the two in this painting - which is still in-progress, though I confess I haven't touched it in a while. It's acrylic and ink on Strathmore Aquarius II paper (when it was still good, fine-grained, non-buckling paper - not the rougher, thinner, wrinklier paper it became, alas). Ian Schoenherr: Happy Birthday, Sherlock Holmes!
http://ianschoenherr.blogspot.com/2010/01/happy-birthday-sherlock-holmes.html
Wednesday, January 6, 2010. Happy Birthday, Sherlock Holmes! Today is the 156th birthday of Sherlock Holmes, so they say. By "they" I mean crazed, obsessive fanatics who devote much of their lives reading, re-reading, discussing, dissecting, and deconstructing the adventures of The Master. Ian Schoenherr: Characters from a Lost Novel
http://ianschoenherr.blogspot.com/2013/07/characters-from-lost-novel.html
Tuesday, July 16, 2013. Characters from a Lost Novel. I confess: the “lost novel” was never lost at all because it was never there in the first place. This page of character studies was more or less a doodle: just me trying out a combination of ink and acrylic paint on a piece of bristol board with no real plan in mind. I love this, Ian! I hope it inspires a whole book! Are you coming to the picnic on the 3rd? July 21, 2013 at 8:16 AM. July 31, 2013 at 9:50 AM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). New Yor...
