Writing Class with Joni. What's Cooking with Joni. Tuesday, June 30, 2015. Cows vs. Transformers. Here’s what’s wrong with the world today: We don’t have enough dancing cows. Make that dancing and whistling. Cows, where little black eighth notes come floating out of their round lips. I blame the cartoon producers. It used to be you could watch any number of cows with giant nostrils, dancing in ruffled aprons, to a great old jazz song, like. 8220;Holiday for Strings.”. Not only that, but scientists discov...

Writing Class with Joni. What's Cooking with Joni. Friday, January 30, 2015. Do You Get My Vibe? Let’s see if you can guess my favorite musical instrument. I’ll wait a minute while you think. Okay, time’s up. You’ll never get it: It’s the vibraphone. This is not the same thing as a xylophone. For one thing, xylo means wood, and vibraphone bars are made out of aluminum. Both are hit with mallets, but the vibraphone has an electric motor that creates a vibrato you can’t get with a xylophone. My hand shot up.

What's Cooking with Joni. Writing Class with Joni. Friday, November 22, 2013. Sausage and Sweet Potato Dutch Baby. What's better than a showy but totally scrumptious breakfast dish? A Dutch Baby is an oven-baked pancake that puffs up and BEGS to be devoured! And when you fill it with sausage and sweet potatoes, the sweet-and-spicy mixture is truly divine. Perfect for autumn, too (and for all those Thanksgiving house guests! And since it's in a contest, you know it's super easy to make.

Joniopolis: Things I Have Said Into My Fridge

Writing Class with Joni. What's Cooking with Joni. Tuesday, July 28, 2015. Things I Have Said Into My Fridge. We’ve all done it. We’ve stood in front of the fridge with the door open, gazing over the offerings as if at a bakery. Except it doesn’t look like a bakery. It looks, depending on the day, cluttered, empty, dull, even sketchy. A plethora of adjectives, but nothing good to eat. You’d think this wouldn’t happen when you love to cook. To be sure, refrigerators are receptacles of mystery. Time to hau...

Joniopolis: August 2015
http://jonihilton.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
Writing Class with Joni. What's Cooking with Joni. Tuesday, August 25, 2015. A girlfriend of mine who subscribes to this blog recently asked how so many funny things keep happening to me. I wish I knew. All I know is that I will never run out of material, both a blessing and a curse. Yes, you cannot make this stuff up. Can you imagine what’s going on behind that door? Even if it’s just guinea pigs, believe-you-me, they can create a good bit of mayhem. Trust me; there’s plenty of genetic info online.

Writing Class with Joni. What's Cooking with Joni. Tuesday, February 18, 2014. I need to go to Projects Anonymous. I keep taking on impossible projects I am certain will be easier than they actually are. Especially when it comes to sprucing up the house, inside or out. The other day I decided to paint our grandfather clock. Now, before you gasp in horror, or say, “Won’t that diminish its value? It was a blah, brown clock. Here you see it next to our piano:. Then I bathed it in a chemical stripping agent.

Joniopolis: Quick-- Duck!

Writing Class with Joni. What's Cooking with Joni. Tuesday, July 7, 2015. A funny thing happens when you decide to enter a competition. Even one you begin as a lark. You become, well, competitive. St Bob was asked to help with a Rain Gutter Regatta at work. In case you’ve never heard of this, it’s something Cub Scouts do, similar to their Pinewood Derby, but using little wooden boats that they physically blow to the finish line in a rain gutter. And then it hit me: I have a whole bag of miniature rubber ...
