Saturday, January 1, 2011. December 30 Xichen and Valladold. We've finished breakfast and On our way to the ATM then will hop a collective to Tulum. There are ruins there and quite a few street vendors along with a Haag'n das and Subway sandwich bar. We looked at each other turned around and headed XOR the collective to Akumal. Saturday, April 24, 2010. Last day in Istanbul. Saturday, April 24. We arrived in Instanbul on the overnight bus at around 8 this am. I am again impressed and a little envious of the public transportation system here. We were unable to take the train because this project has again been put on hold. Apparently they have found more remains as they are putting the new train tunnel from the Asian to European side of Istanbul. The Constantine is at the tram atop and a great place to stay within walking and tr...

Heading for our transfer a large mAn looking like someone with authority asked us about the transfer and led us to a booth where a salesman asked where we were going and proceeded to try and sell us a discounted tour if we would be willing to take a complimentary cab up to another hotel up to another hotel. Wednesday, March 31, 2010. Leaving Wadi Rum and heading for Petra. The sunrise was spectacular. And a ride back in one of the open jeeps. Then we proceeded onto Petra. The terrain changes completely the farther north we go and I can see here how the Bedouin could have survived and how some of them still do as they have for thousands of years with their goats and camels. Sunday, May 2, 2010. The history of these buildings is that they were mostly small warehouses and not meant to be residences as they are now. The area appeared quite prosperous with numerous BMW's parked along side other high end new vehicles in front of these now homes as well as bicycles. All of the presentations were watched by persons of honor who were seated at the front of the imaginary stage and given a little table with glasses of water and tea. Following the school presentations we walked up the side of the mountain to the travetine pools and the ruins of Hierapolis which stood behind the falls.
