Thanks to Bill Shepherd's hard work, skills, abilities and dedication, the pad for the lift was poured on Monday. Here are some pics of the pour. Ole preps the site for framing. Joshua Tree and Southern Railroad Museum. Sunday, November 23, 2008. New Gate for JTSRR. Bill mounts supports on footings he poured during a previous trip. He covered the footings with dirt so no one would know what he was up to. Gate was transported in 4 sections and assembled on site. It was engineered perfectly so you can hardly tell it isn't one piece. Assembly was quick and easy. Paul Lavacot, Terry Watson, Tom Arnold and Paul Westover worked with Bill to put it together. Real soon we will be out of the rock breaking for roadbed and into trestle building. His practicing on big clumsy boulders is going to payoff when we have to surgically slice through a spine of rock in the next hundred feet of High Line. Cleanup of the "Boneyard" area, including moving the sand house back up into place, sorting and piling the rail, either down there or staging it up above to go across the bridge, and moving the tie piles back up next to live rail. John's homage to Mormon Rocks. John has an eye for details and takes pride in blending the G scale scenery into the full size background. Quite a picturesque and believable scene. John rebuilt, repaired, painted and placed the buildings in the engine servicing area on the new extension. Thanks for all the support John!
