A clinic in rural Ghana. How are you I’m fine →. July 26, 2010. Below are some videos capturing the different environments we’ve experienced lately. The first is a video of the sidewalk outside of Makola Market. The second video is a scene from our drive from the rural community of Dzamam, where we are distributing bed nets, back to the town of Asesewa. It is the first leg of a journey that involves four vehicles and four hours to get back to Accra. This entry was posted in Accra. A clinic in rural Ghana.

Sherpa For A Summer. A Summer in Nepal and Kashmir. Laquo; Some Kathmandu Photos. 10 Things I Miss About the USA. Nepal’s First Gay Pride Parade. July 28, 2010 by longlivedharma. Nepal is hosting its first gay pride parade, led by its only openly gay member of Parliament, Sunil Pant. Having lived in Philly for two years, across the street from one of its biggest gay bars, I’ll tell you that I fully support gay pride parades when they are not held outside my apartment window. Global citizen(s) and armchair diplomat(s). Friday, August 27, 2010. The reign of the Corolla. As I noted in a postscripted comment on "The Kabul Commute". The Toyota Corolla is the king of the Afghan road. Clearly imported as used vehicles, they still display bumper stickers from their previous lives, ranging from Wall Drug. Now the Washington Post. Is writing about the overwhelming popularity of Toyotas, too. It must be a slow news day in Kabul? Love is Killer" - on a public bus. No Girl, No Tension".

Global citizen(s) and armchair diplomat(s). Monday, May 31, 2010. So it's a quiet day at the office - nothing new to report. However, three different people have now shared an article at Foreign Policy on Afghanistan in the 1950s that I have to admit is fascinating to see through the lens of Kabul today. Check out the photo below - I can't imagine that being the same city I now wander. click it for more, similarly incredible, images of Kabul past. Sunday, May 30, 2010. Global citizen(s) and armchair diplomat(s). Sunday, May 15, 2011. Eric Prince, founder of Blackwater, is once again up to no good. The New York Times. Reports that he is working to build an 800-man battalion of predominately Colombian troops for the United Arab Emirates. Having just completed Sarah Sewall's fantastic course on American Warfare and the Humanitarian Ethic. But if the army is not made up of the neighbors, relatives, and countrymen of protesters, is there any chance of a similar outcome?

Global citizen(s) and armchair diplomat(s). Wednesday, April 15, 2009. Mass Av, Rainy Day. Student question - "What is the difference between Russian and 'Political Russian'? Dean Einhorn - "When you go into a restaurant, you can order ballistic missiles.". Serious answer - language courses have different practical emphasis to polish vocab, etc. Some core classes can be audited (just pass exam for requirement), frees up elective credits. Three differences with others in APSIA -. I came in 2001 and wasn't...

Global citizen(s) and armchair diplomat(s). Friday, January 28, 2011. What a time to be busy. Tunisia is still far from sorted out, Lebanon's teetering on the brink, and Egypt has no internet. I'd love to be a full-time news junkie (or actually take off for the Middle East), but of course a new semester is starting and a thesis needs drafting. The one thing I can follow and justify as work is, of course, Afghanistan. Martine van Bijlert asks many of the questions. Sunday, January 9, 2011. Life in the Kaz.

four continents: Radio Kabul

Global citizen(s) and armchair diplomat(s). Sunday, January 9, 2011. This summer, the radio station Hossein liked to play on the way to work used 50 Cent's "Candy Shop" as inter-program filler. Even realizing that almost no one listening could understand the lyrics, I was still a bit shocked at the song's popularity. Some weeks later, one of my usual taxi drivers proudly showed off a small video screen he'd installed, complete with looping footage of the Pussycat Dolls. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
