notes from a wide-open life

Monday, February 2, 2015. Too many members don't read the book but come to the discussion anyway - that makes me crazy. What I do like is a great reading list, a reading challenge. I have had a personal challenge on Goodreads for a few years. And I love to read book blogs and see what others are reading. Last year I joined up with the readers at Circle of Pine Trees. And Small Things(for yarn and books). A few times. I hope to be more consistent this year. And how would I choose a book my own mom loved?

notes from a wide-open life: January reading - #theyearinbooks

http://juliannsblog.blogspot.com/2015/01/january-reading-theyearinbooks.html

Sunday, January 4, 2015. January reading - #theyearinbooks. Last year, I stumbled on Laura's The Year in Books group. About mid-year. I appreciated the intentionality behind this idea - read at least one book each month. I have grand ideas about how much reading I will do but that time to sit with a good book is too often set aside. I have enjoyed many audio books the last few years since I am in my car a lot more these days. Last year I also attended The Justice Conference. January 07, 2015 11:25 AM.

notes from a wide-open life: resolution

http://juliannsblog.blogspot.com/2014/12/resolution.html

Wednesday, December 31, 2014. I have spent too much time thinking about resolutions and goals. I have read and re-read posts and online articles. Some encourage the practice, others malign it. I love words. Love lists. Love to join others in setting writing, reading, knitting, and quilting goals. I remember on year I told a woman at church that I was thinking about setting intentions instead of making resolutions. Her reply? So after dragging my feet, I decided to go with my gut, listen to my heart.

notes from a wide-open life: celebrating color

http://juliannsblog.blogspot.com/2015/01/celebrating-color.html

Saturday, January 10, 2015. But today, I am turning on extra lights, pulling out my colored pencils, grabbing my orange coat, and adding color to my day. Thanks to Ruth for providing a reminder and a place to celebrate. Lack of color can be such a tough thing! I like your attitude. I think everyone should color in a coloring book once a day! May your day be filled with lots of color! January 10, 2015 8:46 AM. January 10, 2015 9:10 AM. January 10, 2015 10:37 AM. January 10, 2015 11:07 AM. We have a longer...

notes from a wide-open life: celebrating books - January

http://juliannsblog.blogspot.com/2015/01/celebrating-books-january.html

Saturday, January 31, 2015. Celebrating books - January. Let us remember: One book, one pen, on child, and one teacher can change the world.". I get goosebumps when I find a book that makes me think deeply, stretches my understanding of my country and the world beyond, and leaves me wanting to know more. My first "paper and print" book for 2015 (I also listened to three audio books this month*) was Just Mercy. In June and I will be loaning and recommending this book to everyone I know.

Lazy Gal Winter Class: Just snowballing along ....

http://lazygalwinter.blogspot.com/2008/02/just-snowballing-along.html

Lazy Gal Winter Class. Friday, February 22, 2008. Just snowballing along . Well here I am a couple of weeks later and my quilt is not finished; but I do have something to show you. I have to admit . I really do like the free form fans using just a marker and no stencil. The fans were drawn randomly and some had to be touched up a bit. Sure makes life a lot easier and the effect for this frozen lake gives the illusion of snow drifts and ridges. Have a great weekend! February 23, 2008 at 9:35 AM. Love it&#...

Uganda | nurturing curiosity

My pile of books. I will be posting about our trip to Uganda over here. I am heading to Uganda this summer. So far all I know is the day we leave and the day we return and what immunizations I need to get. The work we will do is up in the air but I am okay with that. I am trying to get my mind ready for this trip – one that will be so very different from anything I have ever taken. And of course I am reading:. Waiting: a novel of Uganda’s hidden war by Goretti Kyomuhendo. The Hole in our Gospel.

Reflections of a Mommy. A little different than the typical mommy blog! A Slice of “Good Night”. August 26, 2012. As soon as Isabelle finished her milk, she pointed to the crib, which she’s been doing for the past couple of weeks. 8220;No, sweet girl,” I started. “Not yet. You need to wait a few minutes before laying down.”. She pointed again. A persistent youngster — yes indeed! In four years she’ll be starting Kindergarten. The stillness ended a couple of minutes later as she lifted her head from my sh...
