Julie's State Parks: January 2014

Long Key State Park (Florida Keys). This is an amazing state park. It is a birdwatcher's dream. The entire park runs along the coastline - it is beautiful. Sunrises and sunsets are breathtaking. And, the park people who run it do a very good job; they run a tight ship and it shows. Everything from the campsites to the restrooms are immaculate. Nice job the Florida State Park people do! An awesome little hawk. I was surprised he didn't fly away. A magnificent frigate bird (female). Oh, YEAH, life is good.

You know he'd be a poorer man if he never saw an eagle fly.". These geese are a little out of their element here in South Florida! I believe this is a mother, father and 4 chicks (I say that because I saw them weeks earlier when 4 of them were smaller than the other two). I think it is unusual for there to be a breeding pair where I saw these in Florida. There's no mistaking that face! The above photos were taken on 06/26/2012. Click on any photo to enlarge.] Post by. Wednesday, August 11, 2010. Saguaro National Park in Arizona is divided into two districts separated by the city of Tucson. To the west is the Tucson Mountain District, which has a desert environment. To the east is the Rincon Mountain District, which has both desert and mountain environments complete with pine trees at the higher elevations. My visits to Saguaro National Park always include the Tucson Mountain District. The Rincon Mountain District. Is not as fun to drive to as the Tucson Mountain Distr...

Sunday, September 12, 2010. My New Favorite National Park. For years, I've been hesitating when asked to name my favorite National Park. I usually name three: Yellowstone, Olympic, and Glacier. No longer. After my recent second trip to Glacier, I can now say that my favorite is Glacier National Park. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Me on the Web.
