Kate Gilliland Jewellery: June 2011
http://kategilliland.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html
The weird and the wonderful. Wednesday, 15 June 2011. The incurably curious. The Wellcome Collection. I visited the museum this morning and wanted to share with any one who will listen how great it is. I always go straight to the medicine man collection a fantastic visual education, with the perfectly picked, life and death symbols from history. From memento mori to phallic amulets there are so many fascinating and weird objects, so thought I would share a few faves. A great mix of amulets. A few new pie...

The weird and the wonderful. Sunday, 14 April 2013. Epping forest on a foraging expedition, what a beautiful forest of magical old trees. Find of the day! An incredible, what I believe is a part of a Rat skeleton. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Kate is a jeweller based in Birmingham's historic Jewellery Quarter. She designs and makes jewellery with a hint of the macabre. Inspired by a childlike intrigue of nature and adventure. See some of Kate's designs at www.kategilliland.com.
Kate Gilliland Jewellery: London calling!
http://kategilliland.blogspot.com/2011/06/london-calling.html
The weird and the wonderful. Wednesday, 15 June 2011. So first of all. A very exciting show to be a part of indeed and met so many interesting people. It was great to be part of the Design Space collective once more and we might not have enjoyed the setting up too much but a few drinks at the private view soon sorted us out. I took several new pieces to the show. Let me know what you think! A few new pieces, more photos to come soon. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

I hear the voices that would be silenced. I see the faces that would be hidden. I feel the heart that would stop beating. I take these things and I paint them. When the world troubles me, I paint. When the people surrounding me confuse, I paint. When the ghosts walk again, I write. When I see a big idea marching away I capture it and teach it, through art. Art and writing are not about technical perfection, lightly penciled and delicately fashioned. You spend a lot of time in your own head analysing what.

I went to Antioch College in the fifties- a gloomy time in many places, but not at Antioch, where intellectual curiosity, personal freedom, and comfortably left-wing politics were the norm. It was also the home of several remarkable theatre programs, and there I lost my heart to the stage and, not incidentally, to writing first for the stage, later for other venues. On the side, I played french horn and violin in the Springfield, Ohio Symphony and studied both violin and horn with private teachers. In th...
