keito in taito

This is a record of my Tokyo adventure for friends and family. Hope you enjoy! Plenty of fish in the sea. But I think I've picked a good one. Mike and I with blue fin tuna at Tokyo Sea Life Park. I think we had more fun than the school children. There were some pretty cool fish. Posted by keito in taito at 9:43 PM. The meaning and symbolism of the festival was interesting, but what we really got excited about was the food! We were not the only ones! Cooking it up.Chowing it down. Posted by mike at 9:39 PM.

keito in taito: Nara (vol II)

http://www.kateintokyo.blogspot.com/2006/11/nara-vol-ii.html

This is a record of my Tokyo adventure for friends and family. Hope you enjoy! And I made peace with the deer (see earlier entry "Kansai with 'Class'") it was only a sandwich after all and I was never really that keen on egg-salad. Posted by keito in taito at 9:28 PM. 23 Sept 2006 - SUMO ROCKS!

keito in taito: Torii Gates

http://www.kateintokyo.blogspot.com/2006/11/torii-gates_15.html

This is a record of my Tokyo adventure for friends and family. Hope you enjoy! At Fushimi Temple at Mount Inari we passed through thousands of torri gates and a number of cute little tea houses as we climbed the slope. At the top we hoped to find an alternate route back. There was a a very basic map in Japanese. I approached a group of Japanese schoolgirls to ask for help translating or finding an alternate route back. I pointed to various parts of the map asking nan-desuka? 23 Sept 2006 - SUMO ROCKS!

keito in taito: Kansai with Mike

http://www.kateintokyo.blogspot.com/2006/11/kansai-with-mike.html

This is a record of my Tokyo adventure for friends and family. Hope you enjoy! At the end fo the week-long class trip I returned to Tokyo to pick up Mike. I think Tokyo was a bit of a shock for him after spending the last 6 months alone in a trailer in the woods. For those who don't know, Mike has been building a cabin for his family in the Cascade Mountains in Washington State. I gave him two days in Tokyo to aclimatize before we took off travelling. My birthday dinner in Kyoto.hot-pot!

keito in taito: Kansai with "Class"

http://www.kateintokyo.blogspot.com/2006/11/kansai-with-class.html

This is a record of my Tokyo adventure for friends and family. Hope you enjoy! In mid-October our class toured the Kansai region SE of Tokyo. We hit all the tourist desitnations, gardens, major architectural sites in Kyoto, Nara and Osaka. It was really fun but left me completely exhausted and ready for a break. There was a celebration and ceremony at Daibatsu-den temple in Nara. It wouldn't be a temple with stairs. Refreshments at Kiyomizu-dera (water temple) after a long day of temple touring in Kyoto.

tokyo bits: November 2006

http://stella-tokyo.blogspot.com/2006_11_01_archive.html

Thursday, November 23, 2006. Aka nihombashi [japan bridge]. Since a senior government offical called this 'ugly', there are plans to put the expressway under. The river, but who knows if it will happen as the costs will be a little high. I kind of like it the way it is. by putting two unlikely pieces of infrastructure together, you get this new kind of space that was not 'designed' and kind of surreal. How much more interesting it would be to cruise along this river in a kayak and be undercover. Each cap...

My life with my true love: The mountains. Can I Wear Stilettos in the Peace Corps?

Friday, March 12, 2010. I'm currently in Kigoma, Tanzania. I huffed, I puffed, and I climbed up the most beautiful mountains in search of chimpanzees. In short, we found man's closest relative, and damn, were they cute! I've been keeping notes and a full report is on its way. This trip, long awaited and well deserved, is just what the doctor ordered. I'm eager to get home, check on my chickens, rile up the batik group, and play some netball with my 7th graders. Friday, January 29, 2010. Nothing else to r...

kateintheworld | finding my feet as a new single – my icon isn't me, it's Dorothy because I feel like her

Get me outta here! Finding my feet as a new single – my icon isn't me, it's Dorothy because I feel like her. Upon the horns of an existential crisis. February 17, 2013. I ask myself sometimes if the inadvertent freedom my ex-husband afforded me by leaving has now been compromised by some deep need for the mundane and routine. Despite our not being a conventional man-woman couple I wonder, are we at risk of becoming tediously everyday? Perhaps I am expecting too much. After all, neither Audrey nor I a...

Living in the UAE

Living in the UAE. Saturday, August 2, 2014. Jam made with Turkish Figs. I have been interested in figs for years (see previous post on fig jam from Lebanese figs), in their botany, in their geographic range - I see them everywhere, and in the diversity of the fruit. I was in southwestern Turkey at the end of July and discovered that Turkey is definitely a good place to go when it comes to figs. I decided to make a small batch of jam from them and bought a kilo at the market. Notes on the measurements.

Kate in Uganda

Wednesday, April 18, 2007. Sooo sorry that I haven’t posted anything in ages. It got a little busy around here, especially now because of finals and stuff. The weekend after our safari, we had quite the adventure. We went white water rafting down the. We conquered class 4 and 5 rapids, which. Doesn’t even have anywhere. We were in large rafting boats with about 10 people in each raft. Each raft had a rafting guide, all of who were SO fun. We hit about 6 sets of rapids, 3 in the morning, 3 in the afternoon.
