Soft Sculptures - Kathryn Clark
http://www.kathrynclark.com/soft-sculptures.html
Investigating the three dimensional properties of fabric construction, this series is a diversion from making quilts. The series involves the traditional methods of quilt making and sewing to make new objects with a variety of meanings. Occur within the cellular structure of a plant, when fibers expand and water remaining in the plant becomes viscous. You can read more about the exhibition here.

Foreclosure Quilts - Kathryn Clark
http://www.kathrynclark.com/foreclosure-quilts.html
My previous work as an urban planner made me acutely aware of how big an impact the foreclosure crisis would have on our cities and towns throughout the United States. However, very little was mentioned in the news. It was important to me to present the whole story in a way that would captivate people’s attention and make a memorable statement. Making map quilts seemed an ironic solution. Quilts act as a functional memory, an historical record of difficult times. And Surface Design Journal.

Finding, Sewing, Telling: Stories and Wonders: December 2013
http://findingsewingtelling.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
Finding, Sewing, Telling: Stories and Wonders. Delicious, odd, and wonderful findings - and the day to day of making. Friday, December 6, 2013. Writing from Sewing's Rhythms. There's a rhythm to sewing that comes when I'm making something. The sound of the thread going through the fabric, the pierce of the needle (a tiny pop), the knot being pulled under, the machine whirring through a seam, or the endless buzz of free-motion quilting. How do the pieces fit together? Is there harmony or dissonance? Wellt...

Monday, January 30, 2012. Every Gardener's January: Reading. I've spent most of this month reading up on edible gardening and am now in the planning stages of what to plant and where. There are several books that have stayed by my side this January. My most used reference is How to Grow more Vegetables. I've had a really old, dog eared copy of Square Foot Gardening. For the eye candy and pure inspiration, I love looking through From Seed to Skillet. By Jere and Emilee Gettle. This offers in-depth des...

Monday, June 25, 2012. I feel like the garden is almost, almost starting to reach it's potential. I still have a long way to go learning the quirks and little rodents that enjoy feasting here but I've managed to keep most things alive. I've figured out with the strawberry bed that pill bugs LOVE strawberries. It took me a few weeks but now that the plants are large enough, if I carefully lay the unripe strawberries on top of their leaves, the pill bugs can't reach them. Monday, June 18, 2012. Here's a pe...

Sunday, September 30, 2012. In the garden in October with a new camera. Finally, finally I can share some overall images of what our garden looks like. I had the amazing chance to buy a new camera this month with new wide angle lenses. Things are definitely a little wild in the garden in these last days of summer. The morning glories are going haywire these days. And finally, looking outside the vegetable garden towards the house. This is our daughter's domain. I have plans for this area, though ...I can...

Sunday, July 15, 2012. It was almost one year ago that I first walked through our cottage garden. We looked, we drooled and dreamed before walking out and thinking this couldn't be ours. It was the first home we toured on our house hunt in Sonoma. Bed D : chard, calendula, peppers, red shiso, beets, bachelor buttons and corepsis. Cottage garden in summer 2011. Next weekend these four small beds will be pulled out and replaced with two 4'x6' beds that will be lined with gopher wire. This weekend I pulled ...

Monday, April 30, 2012. The garden is on steroids - compost! Seriously, something happened in the span of a week that made my plants double in size. As the previous owners just posted on their own blog, it must be the compost. I ran around the garden Saturday morning after being away for a week, "Look at that! This one was half this size last week, OMG, etc.". That's the newbie. Oh and that post? Our contractor is working at a furious pace and hopes to be done by the end of May. In the meantime, here...
