Saturday, November 16, 2013. A garden emerges - weekend three. I was only able to spend three hours this week in the garden, but productive hours they were. Progress is slow but I'm already starting to see the results. This weekend's job was to tackle the bee and butterfly gardens surrounding the raised beds. I was able to find most of the main foundation plants in 4" containers at the garden store, which will save a lot of money since I need a lot of plants. W e e k e n d E D I B L E: February 2012

http://www.weekendedible.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html

Sunday, February 26, 2012. Fruit trees in bloom and new growth. I swear these the fruit trees waited for me to arrive before opening their blossoms. We arrived on Monday, with just a flower or two open only on the nectarine and by the end of the week, many more had followed. My sweet friend, Jaime Rugh. Sent me one of her weavings last year and I've been waiting for just the right tree on which to hang it. I love how the blossoms bring out the pink thread. Next will likely be the yellow peach, followed l...

W e e k e n d E D I B L E: October 2012

http://www.weekendedible.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html

Tuesday, October 9, 2012. What gardeners are up to in October. Harvesting, canning, cleaning, planting . did I mention canning? This time last year our garden was pretty much bare earth in the existing raised beds with lots of apples and figs and a single pear. This year, I've got a whole different animal on my hands. It looks so bucolic in this picture. Stupendously huge black jack figs. Fig jam, fig tortes, fig whatever . Two more batches of applesauce and then I'm done for the year with that! It's mad...

W e e k e n d E D I B L E: June 2012

http://www.weekendedible.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html

Monday, June 25, 2012. I feel like the garden is almost, almost starting to reach it's potential. I still have a long way to go learning the quirks and little rodents that enjoy feasting here but I've managed to keep most things alive. I've figured out with the strawberry bed that pill bugs LOVE strawberries. It took me a few weeks but now that the plants are large enough, if I carefully lay the unripe strawberries on top of their leaves, the pill bugs can't reach them. Monday, June 18, 2012. Here's a pe...

Sunday, September 30, 2012. In the garden in October with a new camera. Finally, finally I can share some overall images of what our garden looks like. I had the amazing chance to buy a new camera this month with new wide angle lenses. Things are definitely a little wild in the garden in these last days of summer. The morning glories are going haywire these days. And finally, looking outside the vegetable garden towards the house. This is our daughter's domain. I have plans for this area, though ...I can...

W e e k e n d E D I B L E: July 2012

http://www.weekendedible.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html

Sunday, July 15, 2012. It was almost one year ago that I first walked through our cottage garden. We looked, we drooled and dreamed before walking out and thinking this couldn't be ours. It was the first home we toured on our house hunt in Sonoma. Bed D : chard, calendula, peppers, red shiso, beets, bachelor buttons and corepsis. Cottage garden in summer 2011. Next weekend these four small beds will be pulled out and replaced with two 4'x6' beds that will be lined with gopher wire. This weekend I pulled ...

lotta's garden: June 2010

http://lottasgarden.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html

Thursday, June 10, 2010. The last few days have been absolutely perfect here in our little town. Temperatures are hovering around 80 F, humidity is low, and the sun is out. The garden is on its best behavior. This is what happens when you repeatedly complain about not having enough peas. Rhubarb and raspberry abundance. A bit of garden whimsy, provided by my mom. We call him Boll, after a Swedish children's story. Jumble of herbs and vigorous tomato plants = happiness. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

lotta's garden: purple shades

http://lottasgarden.blogspot.com/2011/04/purple-shades.html

Tuesday, April 19, 2011. Just a few samples from the current color explosion in the garden. In bloom – tree peony, euphorbia, and fritillaria. Leafing out – red bud, japanese maple, smokebush, and japanese painted fern. Just lovely. You have a lot of great material for dyes. Am envious! April 19, 2011 at 9:55 PM. lotta's garden: March 2010

http://lottasgarden.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html

Tuesday, March 23, 2010. Finally. The sun is out, the air feels balmy, there are birds chirping everywhere, and the maple tree's spent blossoms are littering the streets. Spring is here. There are no memories of winter left in the garden either. Everything is competing to see what can burst first. My favorite tree – the star magnolia – is in full bloom, its white petals fluttering in the wind. Sunday, March 7, 2010. Monday, March 1, 2010. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). A way to garden. lotta's garden: the kitchen garden

http://lottasgarden.blogspot.com/2009/06/kitchen-garden.html

Friday, June 5, 2009. Lemon thyme on the stone steps by the gate. My lovely husband loves to build things. He has a demanding and sometimes stressful day job, so carpentry and construction are some of his favorite ways to decompress. He designed and built the beds, the arches, and the beautiful jeffersonian gate at the top of the garden. He is also responsible for the brick laid paths, which are only partially finished, but hopefully will be completed this year. The jeffersonian gate and the herb garden.
