Obibini - GOING...GOING...GHANA!
https://katie-ghana.livejournal.com/4466.html
Youre ghana miss me. November 30th, 2009. I left Accra at 4 am to catch the bus. I went to Ooeim to change my clothes and see the kids for a few hours before I caught a tro tro to Komenda. I walked to the villiage from the highway junction, and as soon as I was in the villiage people were yelling out to me. "Oh Efwa! Where have you been? One family whose dog I would always played with came running out of their bamboo hut with their puppy in their arms. "Efwa, we have been waiting for you! While we were w...

Youre ghana miss me. November 9th, 2009. Some info about the orphanage:. The children are between the ages 7 and 18. There are two dorm style rooms where all 50 children sleep. Some of the childrens' parents are dead, other abandoned their children, and other parents cannot afford to support their children and have them live in the orphanage. The name of the orphanage is Ooeim, in the small villiage of Eduagyei. The staff is primarily made up of people that came from the orphanage. I'm glad to read that ...

Youre ghana miss me. November 19th, 2009. Ooeim has been great! I'm supposed to be renting a room in a compound in the village, but after almost 2 weeks it's still not ready, so I've been sleeping on the floor of the office. My daily routine at the orphanage:. Wake up around 5 am (by an obnoxious rooster who lives on our campus). Once the kids are gone i do some office work- writing letters to various churches for funds, or applications for renewing the orphanage's license. Then me and the second cycle c...

Youre ghana miss me. November 26th, 2009. I came to Accra to spend Thanksgiving with some of my classmates. We had heard that the African American Center was having a real Thanksgiving dinner, so we were all planning on going to that. Today we were all ready to go until we found out that it wasn't until Saturday! I was very disappointed to know that I would not be getting my cranberry sauce! For the rest of the day we may go to the beach or to a drumming circle. One of the older girls at Ooeim turned 16 ...

Youre ghana miss me. December 8th, 2009. For the most part my entries have been complimentary of my experiences of Ghana. It could be from recent events, or perhaps that I am ready to come home, but I am using this entry to talk about the not-so-nice aspects of Ghana. Ghanaians are very friendly, and when they see a white person they always call out "Obruni! I'm going to cane you. How are you going to talk to me like this? Do you want me to beat you? You need to learn how to respect your elders! Social W...

Going, going . ghana. Stories from a summer studying abroad in Accra, Ghana. Tuesday, August 5, 2008. A quick pre-departure note. So, my time in Ghana has come to an end. I'm flying home tonight, and with any luck and a little providence, I'll be in San Francisco (with all my bags? 8220;It’s a long time to be gone, but a short time to be there.”. Youre ghana miss me. March 5th, 2010. Girl in Komenda collecting water. Our water for "showering," laundry, and cleaning dishes. Departing gift from my host family, another custom kent dress. My classmates and I, our last day in Ghana. Better late than never. February 8th, 2010. Maybe I do operate on African time after all. Weeding with a machete in 90 degree weather is not the most enjoyable work! Eating fish heads with Richard, our reward for weeding. Making bread to sell in town. December 15th, 2009.
Ian Diary: Living with my severely autistic child
Ian Diary: Living with my severely autistic child. Tuesday, October 16, 2012. This entry is in honor of our dear Kandace. A simple thank you is not enough. Not nearly. We love you. Sunday, August 21, 2011. It's been quite a while since my last post. This is mostly due to the fact that most days are simply a repeat of all the days that have gone before, and I don't have anything new to report. But there have been some new developments lately. It's just as difficult to get Ian to sleep! God, grant me the s...

My rants/raves/thoughts and ideas about weight loss surgery. Friday, March 20, 2009. I will post more often - seriously. Then, when I stop it is easier to slip in additional treats. I need to reprogramme my brain a bit, rationally I know that using the food diary is actually a strong conscious choice, its empowering, NOT a sign of weakness. I just need to figure out a way to let my subconscious know that . Wednesday, March 11, 2009. Hello restriction, is that you? Is that restriction I feel? Filling: yes...
