Structure Fire.: December 2009

Thoughts from a human. An exercise in forced sentence proliferation with hopes of overcoming the paralyzing fear of imperfect words. Monday, December 07, 2009. Dubai 7s - Day 5. Written by guest blogger, Alison Worman.]. Day 5, the second day of the tournament, started with an early wake-up call and weigh in. Once again we found ourselves sprinting, skipping and stretching in the narrow hallway of our hotel to get our bodies warm and to get rid of some of the soreness and stiffness. After that, we were a...

Collective Myth: May 2006
http://collectivemyth.blogspot.com/2006_05_01_archive.html
Our interaction with the things that we watch, listen to, and read does, in some sense, define us. Saturday, May 27, 2006. Since I almost always have a DVD playing when I’m hanging out at the apartment, I’ve seen some of the movies on that shelf countless times. Oddly enough, one of the films that holds up viewing after viewing and that I continue to watch quite often is 40 Days and 40 Nights. That 2002 comedy in which Josh Hartnett’s character, Matt, gives up sex for lent. 40 Days and 40 Nights. He coul...

Collective Myth: July 2006
http://collectivemyth.blogspot.com/2006_07_01_archive.html
Our interaction with the things that we watch, listen to, and read does, in some sense, define us. Saturday, July 15, 2006. Once in a while comes a film that crosses the bad-good continuum in reverse, a film so terrible that somehow it becomes good. For many, Starship Troopers. Comes to mind, but the movie I have in mind had a far lower budget and an exponentially lower profile. To a great many who have seen it, Jack Frost. Some of the readership of this blog might recall the first time I saw Jack Frost.

Collective Myth: January 2006

Our interaction with the things that we watch, listen to, and read does, in some sense, define us. Monday, January 16, 2006. Uma Thurman in an ice fishing hut.what could be better? If I'm going to talk about "going home" movies, or high school reunion movies, it's clear that I cannot neglect Beautiful Girls. Of course, the "going home" that takes place for Timothy Hutton's character is almost wholly different from what Martin Blank experiences in Grosse Pointe Blank. Did any of you do something similar?

Collective Myth: June 2006
http://collectivemyth.blogspot.com/2006_06_01_archive.html
Our interaction with the things that we watch, listen to, and read does, in some sense, define us. Tuesday, June 20, 2006. Hard deck my ass.we nailed that son of a bitch! If I were to list a few of the films I think to be great, I’m sure that many would shoot me an are-you-out-of-your-mind facial expression. This, of course, since I’m terribly arrogant and always right, means that these people simply don’t understand those particular films’ claims to greatness. Immediately comes to mind. In the impressio...
