Christiansen's in NZ: Happy Valentine's Day!
http://christiansensinnz.blogspot.com/2009/02/happy-valentines-day.html
An account of our year spent living in New Zealand. Monday, February 16, 2009. Cory and I joined a local kayaking club, and this weekend was our requisite introductory course. Because it fell on Valentine’s Day, we called it our gift to each other…really, how much more romantic can you get than a near-death experience? Seriously, I haven’t even got the kayak into the water yet, and I’ve capsized. Unbelievable. Our trip involved crossing the main boating channel, cruising along Matakana Island, and stoppi...

Christiansen's in NZ: Goodbye, continued
http://christiansensinnz.blogspot.com/2009/06/goodbye-continued.html
An account of our year spent living in New Zealand. Wednesday, June 24, 2009. A few more farewells to report upon. The weekend offered even more excitement. We went to a friends' house on Saturday night to watch the All-Blacks rugby match versus France. It was an intense game, with the All Blacks coming up with the victory. Said a few goodbyes there, then headed home to gear up for Sunday. Cory and Erin Christiansen. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Erin with Mount Erin in the distance. May 11th, 2009.

Christiansen's in NZ: South Island Trip: Unabridged Version
http://christiansensinnz.blogspot.com/2009/01/south-island-trip-unabridged-version.html
An account of our year spent living in New Zealand. Friday, January 30, 2009. South Island Trip: Unabridged Version. Warning: This blog post is extreme in length, and may cause the reader to become drowsy and/or attached to the seating beneath them.). We recently got back from our 10-day trip to New Zealand’s South Island. Cory and I have been wanting to go, and my parents had some of the South Island sights on their “must-see” list, so their trip was the perfect impetus. It was neat, though… We to...

Christiansen's in NZ: Happy Easter!
http://christiansensinnz.blogspot.com/2009/04/happy-easter.html
An account of our year spent living in New Zealand. Tuesday, April 14, 2009. Easter Friday and Easter Monday are holidays here, and while Cory was on call on Friday, he did have Monday off. So we thought we’d better squeeze in a trip down to the Tongariro Mountain Range. We’d been hoping to do the Tongariro Crossing, which winds between Mt. Tongariro and Mt. Ngauruhoe, two dormant volcanoes. The remainder of the walk slowly led you back down through the alpine tundra to the tree line. It was pleasant...

Christiansen's in NZ: Growing hungry
http://christiansensinnz.blogspot.com/2009/05/growing-hungry.html
An account of our year spent living in New Zealand. Monday, May 11, 2009. Another item that I’ll grieve the loss of will be hokey pokey ice cream. I know I’ve written about it before, but it really is deserving of a second mention. The creamy, butterscotch-y base, with small but perfectly dispersed hokey pokey bits that crunch appealingly with each bite… Surely someone would import it. Be willing to import this. Venison and other game is more often seen on the menu here in New Zealand as well. While ...

Christiansen's in NZ: A few minor differences...
http://christiansensinnz.blogspot.com/2009/03/few-minor-differences.html
An account of our year spent living in New Zealand. Monday, March 9, 2009. A few minor differences. We’ve had a number of visitors in the last few months – my mom and dad; our friends, Nate, Tina, and Aleia; and Cory’s mom and dad. In addition to the joy at seeing familiar faces again, these visitors have offered reminders of some of the funny little differences between the US and NZ…. Still on the topic of toilets, everyone has been impressed with the “dual-flush” option. I just made tha...And that dual...
