Cape St Elias Lightkeepers. The island itself has a long history. Chugach Eskimos (who call themselves Alutiiq) had summer fish camps here from time immemorial. According to legend, their people are descended from a single couple who came to the island in a kayak from open sea. The fish camps were abandoned in the mid-19th century. Sea kayaking from the Isle of Man. Isle of Man guide. Anglesey circumnavigation. Day 3. We made an early start and headed into the wind for the final part of the Menai Straits past Caernarfon castle and on to Abermenai point where we would turn right (again) and finally head north on the home straight.
