A Gish Out of Water: December 2012
http://agishoutofwater.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html
A Gish Out of Water. Wednesday, December 5, 2012. Best part about being a quasi-athlete: the post-race pampering. This is especially true in Indonesia where pampering comes pretty cheap. There are more types of massages than you can shake a stick at, and they all run around $10 USD for 90 minutes. I know, I know, at these rates, who needs to be an athlete? How am I not walking around in a constant jello-like state? My first year in Indonesia, I experienced fish therapy. Jess convinced me to join her for ...

A Gish Out of Water. Sunday, March 25, 2012. On the Slow Train. Recently, among my 5k racing, triathlon training, swing dancing, book making, and lesson teaching, I was challenged to slow down. My boyfriend, Loreto, sent me this link. That contained a video from TED all about slowing down. Specifically, the speaker, Carl Honore, talks for 18 minutes (a TED thing) about his book In Praise of Slow. And about the Slow Movement. This past weekend was a long weekend because of the Balinese new year holiday...

A Gish Out of Water: May 2012
http://agishoutofwater.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html
A Gish Out of Water. Saturday, May 12, 2012. Uphill All the Way. New friends, some of whom are seemingly trying to kill me. My experiment in becoming a triathlete this year has led to a lot of new friends and many new adventures. Some of these adventures end in bodily harm (jellyfish, heat exhaustion, etc), but it's fun to see what one is made of. A few weekends ago, I learned that when it comes to uphill cycling, I'm made up of a squishy lack of resolve that smells like shame. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

A Gish Out of Water: Call me Gishboger: Tales from the High Sea
http://agishoutofwater.blogspot.com/2013/04/call-me-gishboger-tales-from-high-sea.html
A Gish Out of Water. Wednesday, April 24, 2013. Call me Gishboger: Tales from the High Sea. Call me Gisboger. A hardened sailor, I am not. I’m pretty much afraid of everything that lies just below the water’s surface. Coral, jellyfish, sting rays, plastic bags, half-decayed bodies like in the book Hatchet. When I started joining open-water swim practices for triathlon training, I added the sea urchin to my long list of things-to-stay-away-from-in-the-water. Urchins, known here as bulu babi. I had given u...
