Common Denominator: Saturday Novel: Ambush
http://kenschenck.blogspot.com/2015/08/saturday-novel-ambush.html
A blog dedicated to truth, justice, and the way of Christ. Saturday, August 08, 2015. Alan looked around the room to see if there was anyone else he didn't know. Satisfied that he had a good sense of the players, he moved over to a table where Ridley was sitting by herself, looking at her phone. You running in the morning? Of course. Don't even thinking of skipping just because of a reception.". You're all freshers," she said dryly. "There's nothing of any interest to the lot of you.". What do you think?
Common Denominator: After the Rapture...
http://kenschenck.blogspot.com/2011/05/after-rapture.html
A blog dedicated to truth, justice, and the way of Christ. Saturday, May 21, 2011. Is the greatest prophet since John the Revelator, I doubt very seriously there will be a rapture today. I will continue grading. He has no clue how to read the Bible in context, and he falls into a predictable pattern. On Sunday he will either recalculate or say the rapture happened in some spiritual way. It's all been done before. many times. especially in America. Angie Van De Merwe. Concerning reconciliation and restora...
Common Denominator: When did Europe become Christian?
http://kenschenck.blogspot.com/2015/05/when-did-europe-become-christian.html
A blog dedicated to truth, justice, and the way of Christ. Thursday, May 21, 2015. When did Europe become Christian? This is a follow-up to yesterday's post. About the "conversion" of the Roman Empire to Christianity. My thesis there was that most people simply changed their flags, not their hearts. My thesis is that the number of "true" Christians at any one time- individuals who are truly devoted in heart to God- is always a minority. Of course the pagans in Rome blamed the Fall of Rome on its abandoni...
Common Denominator: What changed with Theodosius?
http://kenschenck.blogspot.com/2015/05/what-changed-with-theodosius.html
A blog dedicated to truth, justice, and the way of Christ. Wednesday, May 20, 2015. What changed with Theodosius? 1 You often hear that Constantine made Christianity the only allowable religion in the Roman Empire, that he squashed Gnosticism as a Christian possibility. This is false. Constantine made Christianity legal. It had been the target of persecution previously) in AD313. He did not make it the official religion of the Roman Empire. He even patronized some other gods. In keeping with the Mediterr...
Common Denominator: Teaching math as needed for physics (for nerds only)
http://kenschenck.blogspot.com/2015/05/teaching-math-as-needed-for-physics-for.html
A blog dedicated to truth, justice, and the way of Christ. Monday, May 18, 2015. Teaching math as needed for physics (for nerds only). I came across a physics textbook a long time ago that was striking to me because it interrupted the flow of the physics instruction with about 7 gray sections on calculus. As a teacher, this approach intrigues me. It could be used in the teaching of any discipline that has prerequisites. But I can imagine putting together the beginnings of a science curriculum this way.

Time won't take the boy out of this man." -U2. Friday, March 04, 2011. Introverts In the Church 5.1. 8220;So much of me wants to be lost in my grand ideas and reflections, away from the noise and urgency of other people, but I cannot escape the fact that growth invariably involves the messiness of genuine human contact and the struggles of intimacy.” (Adam McHugh). Time won't take the boy out of this man." -U2. Wednesday, April 06, 2011. Depression is often a birthing process just before God makes a breakthrough. If you can look at depression as a gift and look at what God is going to do in you through it in the future, it can change your perspective about it." -Unknown. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Time won't take the boy out of this man." -U2. Friday, January 01, 2010. I was able to finish a few more books this year than last year. It helped that Star Wars was better this year. As always, here's my disclaimer: This list only represents the books that I actually finished. This would be a far greater list if I retold all the books that I started, parts of commentaries that looked through, or early church reading that I accomplished. Okay, here it goes:. 1 The Secret Blend (Stan Toler) 180 Pages.

Time won't take the boy out of this man." -U2. Saturday, November 06, 2010. On Chicken Feed and Dancing. About a week ago, I had the opportunity to gather with a few other pastors in the district. The leader of the meeting (Steve Wright, Oak Lawn) pitched a few questions our way and I found the questions to be both challenging and powerful. I’d like to deal with one of them on here today. The chickens would dance and then chicken feed when come out as a reward. What’s your chicken feed? What he was conce...
Mid-West to PTS: April 2010
http://midwesttopts.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html
Thursday, April 8, 2010. How wise are we, really? I was reading 1 Corinthians this morning and I came across this verse: (1 Cor. 1:17) "For Christ did not send me [Paul] to baptize but to proclaim the gospel, and not with eloquent wisdom, so that the cross of Christ might not be emptied of its power.". It seems like a no-brainer, and yet Paul seems to be saying that all our eloquence and wisdom can empty the cross of its power. May God show me the dangers, and speak His foolishness through me. Is it God'...

Wednesday, October 6, 2010. Reasons I fail to enter the presence of God daily. We're reading "The Pursuit of God" by A.W. Tozer as a church staff. I felt prompted to make this list as a result of that reading. 1) I have sinned, and I am ashamed, and so I run from the presence of God, like Adam. I don't feel as though I am worthy to be in the presence of God. 5) I do not love God as I should, and so I do not long to be in His presence as I should. Oh Lord, let this list serve as a confession, and a cry fo...

Bright Sadness: 2011 Reading List
http://joshhoward.blogspot.com/2012/01/2011-reading-list.html
Time won't take the boy out of this man." -U2. Sunday, January 01, 2012. As has been my tradition. here's all my reading from the past year. For the record. it's my lowest page total since I've been tracking this thing. The problem is that I'm in the middle of three or four books both at home and in the office. So it's a little deceiving. Hopefully I can get up into the 10,000 page range next year. We shall see. 1 Razing Hell (Sharon Baker) 222 Pages. 2 A Resilient Life (Gordon MacDonald) 243 Pages.

Time won't take the boy out of this man." -U2. Wednesday, January 26, 2011. Introverts In the Church 4.3. McHugh continues on in this chapter about the smaller rhythms in life. He gives a story about a summer in Mexico that sounds extremely close to the feeling I had on a trip to Nepal. Sensory overload and no time of solitude lead to a hazy fatigued feeling. His first assumption was that he was not cut out for missions… when all he needed was space to recharge. Saturday, January 01, 2011. 10 Fit To Be T...

Time won't take the boy out of this man." -U2. Sunday, December 19, 2010. Introverts In the Church 4.2. Recently, I was involved in a pastor’s meeting and I was asked the question: How do you know when God is talking to you? How do you know when He is asking you to do something or when He is calling you to move forward in ministry in a particular way? Or what if it’s a decision between a good thing and a better thing? How do I make my decisions? Thursday, December 02, 2010. Which was a section in which I...

Learn, innovate, push. Saturday, March 31, 2018. Today's excerpt from my novella. Two tasks were planned during his time in death. The first was to go to the “place” where one group of fallen angels were bound, near where the spirits of the faithless wait. Some of the fallen angels are already bound for all eternity. Jesus’ first task in death was to proclaim a definitive victory over these imprisoned spirits. With his death, their defeat was final. The earth was redeemed. It just didn&...Jesus’ se...
