Welcome to Kijabe.org. Lightning over Longonot. April 29, 2007. Kijabe means "Place of the Wind" in the Masai language. It is one of the largest mission stations in the world, with over a hundred missionaries living in the community. It is located on the edge of Great Rift Valley, about 50 km West of Nairobi Kenya. Tuesday, December 2, 2008. The final days and returing home. Nov 30, 2008. We left from the Poenarus by Land Rover at 830AM, a little later than planned en route to Ndabibi, a 2-hour drive initially by very nice highway followed by progressively worsening and dusty dirt roads. Monday, October 26, 2009. Hymns in the Hallway. This morning, we woke up to a particularly strong, cold wind bending the trees, as though Kijabe was sending us off in style, with a fierce display of force and beauty. I wrapped myself in my white coat and shuffled down to the hospital through a near dust-storm for my last morning rounds. Wednesday, August 21, 2013. Dinner and Anne's and Dan's. The last time I was in Kijabe, the head nurse was Anne Mukweyi. You can see a picture of the younger Anne in my first posting of this blog. She is the one sitting a bit further back at the nursing station on the Paediatrics ward. Anne is a very competent Nandi nurse who ran the ward with efficiency and a good deal of wisdom when I was originally at Kijabe in 2002. Since then we have corresponded. She got married in 2007 to Daniel who is a Luo.
