Kijabe_Mission_2013

Wednesday, August 21, 2013. Dinner and Anne's and Dan's. The last time I was in Kijabe, the head nurse was Anne Mukweyi. You can see a picture of the younger Anne in my first posting of this blog. She is the one sitting a bit further back at the nursing station on the Paediatrics ward. Anne is a very competent Nandi nurse who ran the ward with efficiency and a good deal of wisdom when I was originally at Kijabe in 2002. Since then we have corresponded. She got married in 2007 to Daniel who is a Luo.

Kijabe_Mission_2013: Scenes and Snapshots

http://kijabemisson2013.blogspot.com/2013/08/scenes-and-snapshots.html

Monday, August 5, 2013. It has been a long week and I am glad for the chance to sleep in Saturday. I went to the mduka (shops) after a late breakfast. A pineapple, large papaya, onions, field peas, avocado, jam, milk, bread and sugar rounded out my shopping list and just about filled my day-pack. I looked out on the Rift Valley, the dark Ngong Hills, the clouds and distant rain showers making it a very dramatic scene. I came to a road and started down it, toward the distant valley. His response was typic...

Kijabe_Mission_2013: Starting the Countdown to Kijabe

http://kijabemisson2013.blogspot.com/2013/07/starting-countdown-to-kijabe.html

Wednesday, July 10, 2013. Starting the Countdown to Kijabe. I started mefloquine again today. The risk of malaria is probably small but one has to start the prophylaxis two weeks before you arrive. This reminded me that I am actually going to be leaving on the 20th for another mission trip abroad. This is a return of sorts to Kijabe Hospital, located about two hours drive from Nairobi and situated on the very wall of the Great Rift Valley. July 10, 2013 at 9:37 PM. Two fourth-year medical students from Chicago spend a month at a hospital in Kijabe, Kenya. Thursday, February 25, 2010. We were mobbed by very aggressive Maasai salespeople when we reached the Mara gate. The private tents were awesome. We were charged at by elephants twice. The Mara was beautiful. Kijabe

Tuesday, December 2, 2008. The final days and returing home. Nov 30, 2008. We left from the Poenarus by Land Rover at 830AM, a little later than planned en route to Ndabibi, a 2-hour drive initially by very nice highway followed by progressively worsening and dusty dirt roads. In the end, I am not certain the last few miles really qualified as roads! That’s driving in Africa! The note-finding, harmony, and rhythm was a spectacle in itself. The service went on for about 2 hours including a sermon by D...

WOODS IN THE WORLD

Monday, October 26, 2009. Hymns in the Hallway. This morning, we woke up to a particularly strong, cold wind bending the trees, as though Kijabe was sending us off in style, with a fierce display of force and beauty. I wrapped myself in my white coat and shuffled down to the hospital through a near dust-storm for my last morning rounds. This morning, as I walked from Paul's bedside to the theatre to say goodbye to the OR staff, the voices of nurses at their morning devotions filled the resonant halls&#46...
