CVWO News from Kiptopeke. Monday, November 20, 2006. Anhinga seen at Kiptopeke 11/20/06. Here is a picture of a high soaring ANHINGA that passed over the Kiptopeke State Park on the 20th of Nov. It was first spotted by Coastal Virginia Wildlife Observatory's hawkcounter Scott McConnell around 10:45 am and then radioed over to me at the banding station and informed me of the bird. CVWO News from Kiptopeke. Friday, October 21, 2011. Today's banding was highlighted by what appeared to be a Western Wood-pewee. Wing and tail morphology indicated that it was this species along with the overall coloration of the bird. Given the time of year and the strong west winds the last several days, the occurrence is not altogether surprising. Furthermore, any flycatcher this time of year other than Eastern Phoebe should be studied carefully for possible vagrancy. Eastern Wood Pewee 6.

As is typical during this early October time frame, Catbirds are everywhere and today we were treated to a rather unusual looking one; a leucistic individual that was a coffee color, especially on the wings and tail (see photos).
