Urban Garden Hoe: Seedy Saturday and Baby Chives
http://urbangardenhoe.blogspot.com/2010/02/seedy-saturday-and-baby-chives.html
A DIY gardening blog, kept by an urban girl with a taste for green. Tuesday, February 9, 2010. Seedy Saturday and Baby Chives. This past Saturday, some friends and I got together for a seed exchange. We each brought whatever extra seeds we had, which amounted to a lot since we are all just backyard gardeners. Each person put their seed packets in a bowl and I set out coin envelopes. You can put your plants outside on nice, sunny days (not that we have any just yet! Thats such a cute pot. Do you know ...

The Balcony Garden: Starlings
http://balcony-garden.blogspot.com/2011/01/starlings.html
Thursday, January 27, 2011. My mother loathed starlings (sturnus vulgaris). She'd always put out bread for the birds, but then spend hours chasing off the starlings. Bullies she called them, only interested in "stealing" food from the little sparrows. Anthromorphism rules, OK. Why have they abandoned our area of parkland and gardens to move into a trading estate? No idea. Wouldn't have thought that an Asda car park was that rich on pickings. Could be the MacDonald's next door I suppose . Yet even a few w...

Through the Garden Gate: A Productive Afternoon
http://through-the-garden-gate.blogspot.com/2011/04/productive-afternoon.html
Through the Garden Gate. Life begins the day you start a garden - Chinese Proverb. Sunday, April 24, 2011. There was a wide variety of tomatoes to choose from however I was disappointed there were no descriptions of the many types I’d never heard of. Just as well I guess, since I tend to choose tomato transplants based on their names anyway. Here are the tomatoes I chose and descriptions and photos I mined from the internet:. Beauty Queen (web image). A search for a variety labeled. Features purple daisy...

Through the Garden Gate: Summer's Finally Here
http://through-the-garden-gate.blogspot.com/2011/06/summers-finally-here.html
Through the Garden Gate. Life begins the day you start a garden - Chinese Proverb. Sunday, June 19, 2011. After spending all Saturday puttering in the garden, there’s not much to do there today. After a long absence from the blogosphere, here’s an update. The harvest to date includes a few generous handfuls of snap peas, a dozen or so radishes, one turnip, quite a bit of albeit earwig-chewed, Swiss chard and at least four servings of green beans, though not all four were picked and enjoyed on the same day.

put up or shut up !: Lemon Rosemary Vodka
http://www.putsup.com/2010/03/lemon-rosemary-vodka.html
Put up or shut up! Adventures in the Pantry! March 3, 2010. What's the expression, make lemonade out of lemons? Well I say make Rosemary Lemon Vodka out of lemons. My fine friends at Food Forward. Blessed me with a ton of lemons after our last canning class. They arrived at my house armed three huge cases of delicate and fragrant meyer lemons which we promptly transformed into 36 quarts of preserved lemons. Require firing up the stove. You can easily substitute another lemon variety. This recipe has two ...

Freshly Handmade or Grown On Our Family Farm. Hobnobbing with a famous author. January 31, 2011. Isn’t it fun hanging out with a famous funny author? Oh was she a hoot! That could have earned me TWO chocolates yesterday. Lorna Landvik will be busy this week finishing a new book, which of course she couldn’t divulge any information about except that it is almost done. And I will be busy doing tax work (of which I am months behind); guess who will be having the most fun? Filed in For what it's worth. Thank...

Freshly Handmade or Grown On Our Family Farm. January 27, 2011. Winter is the time when I catch up on my reading and here are some of my favorites so far this season:. The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt. A very well documented book about the Colony Collapse Disorder that is affecting honeybees worldwide. I would highly recommend this book to anyone considering beekeeping. Five Quarters of the Orange. A very intriguing read that centers around food and secrets. By the author of CHOCOLAT! By Joel Glenn Brenner.
