Baking is Science for Hungry People -J. Jacques. Peanut Butter Truffle Pi. For Pi Day this year I asked my brother for suggestions. All he gave me to go on was “not a fruit pie”… I started searching around and remembered how much I’d always loved peanut butter pies. Betty Crocker happened to have a good one. 1 pie crust, prepared according to directions. 1/2 cup whipping cream. 6 oz dark chocolate. 1/2 tsp. vanilla. 1 cup whipping cream. 8 oz cream cheese, room temperature. 1 cup peanut butter. Melt choc...

Italian Easter Bread | Kitchen Alchemist

Baking is Science for Hungry People -J. Jacques. My grandmother on my mother’s side is a full blooded Italian Catholic, so Easter was always a big deal. I remember having this for Easter as a kid – mostly I remember it because I wondered “How did Grandma get the eggs in the bread like that? 8221; This year I wasn’t able to spend Easter with her but I was able to send her half of my first ever loaf of Easter bread. I wish this was my grandma’s recipe, but I found a pretty good one. 1 Tbsp. lemon zest.
Shortbread | Kitchen Alchemist
https://kitchenalchemist.wordpress.com/2012/04/11/shortbread
Baking is Science for Hungry People -J. Jacques. Shortbread fingers are my favorite “cookie” to have with my tea. But they are so expensive! A box of 8 costs close to $4! For years I just sucked it up, bought them, and restricted myself to just one every few days. Finally I have overcome my fear of the shortbread recipe! I’m no longer sure why I was so nervous about making these, they’re so easy! 1 stick 2 tbsp butter*. 1 1/3 cup flour. Pre-heat oven to 375F. Refrigerate for 15 minutes. Next post →.

Kitchen Alchemist | "Baking is Science for Hungry People" -J. Jacques
Baking is Science for Hungry People -J. Jacques. It’s been quite a long time. But here I am, back with new recipes! My grandmother used to make a phenomenal plum pie – the inspiration for my current recipe. Like all aspiring baking bloggers, I take inspiration where I find it – often from the internet. The crust today comes from David Lebovitz. The filling is a hodge podge of ideas from Martha Stewart, Allrecipes, and what I was able to find in my kitchen cupboards…. 6 1/3 Tbsp unsalted butter. Arrange s...
Kitchen Alchemy
Monday, September 19, 2016. When my son requested a space party for his birthday this year, I rubbed my hands together with glee - finally I had an excuse to buy some cool tools from the Evil Cake Genius. My grand idea for a cake was something that looked like Jupiter. I had seen a hand painted one on Pinterest, and I wondered whether I could create a similar effect with swirling fondant. So I ordered the hemisphere baking tin and spherical cake combs. It was obvious very quickly that my sphere was too s...
