Coffee with my Dranny | The Kitchen Trials
https://kitchentrials.wordpress.com/2013/09/01/morning-coffee
Me vs the Kitchen. With No Supervision. Coffee with my Dranny. September 1, 2013. It’s been nearly two months since my Dranny, Lovetta Childs, passed away on July 7. In the past couple of weeks, I’ve been able to find some new sense of normal, but there are times when the grief hits me unexpectedly and leaves me with tears running down my face. This morning, I’m sitting on my patio. Drinking coffee out of the cup I keep at the house just for her. Because my Dranny only drank coffee from her...Yeah…...

Me vs the Kitchen. With No Supervision. One-Pot Pasta with Spinach and Tomatoes. March 14, 2014. Lately, I’ve been making more of an effort to cook dinner at home and to prepare meals that’ll make good leftovers for lunch at work. My cookbook and magazine habit has been pretty darn helpful in this effort. But they’re going to have to wait a while, because this recipe for One-Pot Pasta with Tomato-Basil Sauce. One-Pot Pasta with Spinach and Tomatoes. Like you don’t have lazy nights in the kitchen? I will ...

Bluebonnet Baker’s Baby Shower | The Kitchen Trials
https://kitchentrials.wordpress.com/2013/08/19/bluebonnet-baby
Me vs the Kitchen. With No Supervision. Bluebonnet Baker’s Baby Shower. August 19, 2013. You can take the girl out of Texas, but you’ll never take the Texas out of the girl. Banana Pudding Two Ways for Amber’s Texas Baby Shower. This is a phrase that perfectly describes my friend Amber of Bluebonnet and Brownies. Today, though, I get to celebrate Amber’s Texas Baby Shower with her and all y’all. Banana Pudding is a familiar recipe for just about anyone I know. Which one of us, especially us Texas kid...
Coming Home and Some Chicken Fried Steak | The Kitchen Trials
https://kitchentrials.wordpress.com/2012/05/04/coming-home
Me vs the Kitchen. With No Supervision. Coming Home and Some Chicken Fried Steak. May 4, 2012. Seven months ago today, I packed up the last of my things and left Nebraska to move home to Texas. One of the reasons. Was the need to be closer to family and friends, which could have meant a move to Texas (family) or to D.C. (family of friends). But the reality is that what I wanted most was to move to Texas, the home state of my heart. This is what happy looks like: My first stop in Texas during my move home.

The Omaha Chronicles: Breaking in the New Kitchen
http://omahachronicles.blogspot.com/2009/09/breaking-in-new-kitchen.html
September 14, 2009. Breaking in the New Kitchen. At the very end of August, I moved to a new apartment. When I first saw it's floor plan online, I was intrigued enough to book an appointment. Almost from the very first moment I walked into it, I was smitten. Lots of windows. Great space. High ceilings. And, most important, a kitchen designed for entertaining and cooking - much more so than my last apartment. Somehow, I managed the move and the work travel with only the occasional lapse in sanity. And rem...

March 16, 2009. 380 Books. 46 Cookbooks. One Cooking Challenge. I like to think I’m a laid back sort. I figure there are times to kick up a fuss (not too often), times to be detailed oriented (like when booking flights or at work) and times to just be chill (most of the rest of the time). However, I can be a wee bit anal retentive about some things. Spelling and grammar are one of those things (though I will not claim to be perfect when it comes to either – that’d be stupid). I am no where near as ambiti...
The Omaha Chronicles: Sweet and Savory Scones
http://omahachronicles.blogspot.com/2009/10/sweet-and-savory-scones.html
October 30, 2009. Sweet and Savory Scones. Fast on the heels of hosting my first dinner party in my new apartment, I invited a couple of my girlfriends over for a "True Blood: Season 2" marathon (thank you hbo ondemand! Knowing we would need plenty of energy to see us through the day, top of mind was making sure we'd have enough food and drink to see us through hours. Of watching Eric and Jason, and wondering who in tarnation thought it was necessary for. Either one of them to bother with wearing a shirt.
The Omaha Chronicles: Easter Orphans - A week after the fact
http://omahachronicles.blogspot.com/2009/04/easter-orphans-week-after-fact.html
April 19, 2009. Easter Orphans - A week after the fact. Easter has always held a very special place in my heart. On my mother’s side of the family, this is a big family holiday. When I was young, it came complete with all the usual trappings, including a special outfit, Easter eggs and baskets, the Easter egg hunt, and – best of all – a very large Easter dinner. Growing up, Easter dinner was almost always an Easter ham,. Potato salad, baked beans, some. Sort of veggie and bread. This was a tr. And lest y...
The Omaha Chronicles: A Housewarming Dinner Party
http://omahachronicles.blogspot.com/2009/10/housewarming-dinner-party.html
October 24, 2009. A Housewarming Dinner Party. I am, admittedly, a procrastinator. It's not the best of traits to have. However, I'm also a deadline-driven sort. The deadline and the crazier the expectations, the better. Do you have a hand grenade that needs to be defused? After someone pulled the pin? No problem. Got it covered. (well, not an actual hand grenade. i wouldn't know what the heck to do with a hand grenade, but it make. S for an interesting metaphor.). In terms of my cooking challenge. I mad...

Baker's Son: April 2013
http://bakerson.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html
Saturday, April 20, 2013. For no particular reason yesterday, as it is not something I have ever done, I felt prompted to call Nova (a radio station) to offer a correction (they thought Alex Kingston was a dude). And when I did, they gave me free tickets to SupaNova (our version of ComicCon) as well as free entry to Dreamworld SupaNova after dark. It was only two tickets to Dreamworld, but I wasn't even able to wake Will, so I ended up taking Justice myself. Free is very cool! Saturday, April 20, 2013.
Baker's Son: Another day at work...
http://bakerson.blogspot.com/2013/04/another-day-at-work.html
Friday, April 5, 2013. Another day at work. Justice came and helped me with deliveries last night. We stayed in the city once we finished and visited the museum to see the dinosaur exhibit that is closing soon and also went to the science centre. Which was a HIT. Of course, future Doctor McPhail had to do the giant body puzzle. There were some interesting exhibits about light and illusion. As well as some great puzzles. And a giant lightning ball! But he particularly liked the shadow display.
The Omaha Chronicles: Transparency and Authenticity
http://omahachronicles.blogspot.com/2009/06/transparency-and-authenticity.html
June 07, 2009. As I become more familiar with the social media world, there are two words that I hear repeated time and again. The more time I spend engaging in various social media arenas and the more I hear about the importance of these two concepts within the social media world, the more I have thought about how they apply to me. Clearly, they do. I started this blog because “ all the kewl kids are doing it. All of my readers should also know that I work at ConAgra Foods. I’m very lucky in the f...
