A Masterpiece in Progress: November 2013
http://vanessamsiemens.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html
A Masterpiece in Progress. Thursday, November 21, 2013. Life, L'chaim, Leaning. Yet at times dead inside. At times unable to fully live. One of my favourite passages in the Bible comes out of Deuteronomy. It reads as follows:. I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants,. By loving the Lord. Seems like a pretty easy, obvious decision. The prospect of choosin...

A Masterpiece in Progress: May 2014

A Masterpiece in Progress. Thursday, May 1, 2014. Living Under the Umbrella of Life. It is easy to be so focused on one thing that we miss out entirely on another. A year ago I received a phone call at work that ruined my day. It was suspected that my mom had cancer again. Fear and sorrow overcame me as I suspected that perhaps there was another great loss in store for my family. A few days ago, my second nephew was born, my mom's second grandson (different family from the other one, don't worry! And onc...

A Masterpiece in Progress. Thursday, January 30, 2014. A Lament Surrounded by Hope. Lamentations is a book of the Bible that I have read before, skimming all the parts that aren't so pleasant and focusing in on the center of the book, which proclaims the greatness of God's faithfulness and makes me feel good after reading it. But this I recall to my my mind, therefore I have hope. The Lord's lovingkindnesses indeed never cease,. For His compassions never fail. They are new every morning;. To the person w...

A Masterpiece in Progress: July 2014

A Masterpiece in Progress. Monday, July 7, 2014. Paths on the Journey. When I moved to Quebec three years ago, it was an exciting time of taking the next step toward a place that had been on my heart since I was 12 and I was finally embarking on what God had been calling me toward for so long. Although I didn't know what my entire future would hold, I knew I would be in Quebec serving in some way for quite some time. Sometimes our paths take us places we would have never imagined. Lately I have been lovi...

A Masterpiece in Progress: There is More
http://vanessamsiemens.blogspot.com/2014/10/there-is-more.html
A Masterpiece in Progress. Tuesday, October 14, 2014. Some days I want to run away and hide from life. Sometimes this happens in a literal sense of me going away and at other times there is great temptation to disengage and find various means to mindlessly pass the time. I have a tendency to withdraw. When something appears as a threat or there is uncertainty or confusion, I back off and put up walls. On the days when I feel weary and feeling done, I am reminded that there is more. A world void of colour.

A Masterpiece in Progress: April 2014

A Masterpiece in Progress. Sunday, April 27, 2014. Resurrection, Reflections, Rainclouds. As I had been preparing for Easter this year, I had been reflecting much on hope and its implications in my own life. I came across this quote in one of my books for school and had to reread it continually and have been reflecting on its depth of truth and the hope it gives of living into the resurrection:. A Masterpiece in Progress: October 2013

A Masterpiece in Progress. Wednesday, October 30, 2013. Jesus Fully Divine. Fully Human. Remember those times when you said you would never do something? And then you end up doing exactly that? In this case, as I often assume, perhaps Jesus' understanding of his identity and mission were not pipelined into him, but rather they were developed through his life, through revelation, intuition, crisis, prayer and communion. Jesus was not able to sin, but was he aware of it? God the Son, who became flesh in Je...

A Masterpiece in Progress. Sunday, August 24, 2014. Life in the Fog. I love taking pictures and I happen to take a lot of them. For those who know me, or those who follow me on social media, this statement would likely not come as a shocking one. (It might however serve to annoy those who might think I post too many photos! But I will not apologize for that one.). Fog adds an element of mystery and wonder. You know there is something beautiful and majestic in sight, and yet you can only catch a glimp...

A Masterpiece in Progress: January 2015
http://vanessamsiemens.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
A Masterpiece in Progress. Monday, January 5, 2015. It's funny how quickly we can lose perspective. As Christmas approached last year, we were clinging to the hope that my mom would still be alive to celebrate Christmas. Throughout the holidays, there was an awareness that it was quite likely her last Christmas. Since then a year has passed, along with another Christmas and every other celebration in between. And my mom is doing better than a year ago. My prayers are not so desperate anymore. Things ...
