July 30, 2016. A few weeks ago Donna Druchunas posted a list of her ten favorite knitting books. One of the books she mentioned was. Knitting Heaven and Earth. By Susan Gordon Lydon. She said, This is hands-down my favorite non-pattern book about knitting, and the best writing about knitting I have ever read. Almost every time I reached for my pen to mark something important, the red crayon person had already marked it. Had her mind wandered for a moment–wasn’t she paying attention? I’m pretty sure the r...

This is where the quotations from the homepage sidebar go to retire. I’m told they’ve done very well with investments, so hopefully they’ll be happy here. Kay Ryan, From an interview in. Winter 2008, No. 197. Jiddu Krishnamurti, From. Krishnamurti: The Years of Awakening. Getting Fleeced - Knit Potion
http://www.knitpotion.com/2015/07/getting-fleeced
July 28, 2015. Today, I have been spinning in the grease! The course I’m taking has us begin by spinning raw, completely unprocessed fleece. That’s fleece that has come straight off the sheep. In addition to the lanolin that’s still in the wool, there are twigs and dirt and other bits of what is referred to as VM, or vegetable matter. Things went surprisingly well once I got used to manipulating the sticky tufts. Here’s what I ended up with after about an hour. By the time I was ready to stop, my hands w...
Sum Sum Summertime - Knit Potion
http://www.knitpotion.com/2015/08/sum-sum-summertime
August 5, 2015. How’d we get to Wednesday already? And while we’re at it, how is it that the kids are already going back to school? It seems so early, but a lot of the schools in our area are starting this week. Time flies, for sure. Sunday, we hiked along a rocky creek that runs through the woods for a mile and a half or so before it gets too steep and tangled to follow. The picture at the top of this post is a shot of a pair of my handknit socks in action on the trail. Woohooo! I also cast on some sock...

March | 2015 | Cari-d Away with Fiber

Cari-d Away with Fiber. Fiber: my soft place to land. Module 8, part 2: Paisley is my favorite color. I have a touch of whimsy. And immaturity. And I’m a little silly and indecisive. It’s also hard for me to feel confident in my decisions. But I will stand by this: Paisley is my favorite color. I went a little overboard in Module 5. Yielded zero patterns. Seriously? I found the near equivalent of a googlewhack. Worse than that, it didn’t return ONE HIT. Crochet patterns, yes. But I adamantl...There was a...

http://jeanmiles.blogspot.com/2015/08/my-husband-continued-to-seem-better.html
Sunday, August 09, 2015. My husband continued to seem better when Helen and I visited yesterday, although some diarrhoea continues and he is still in hospital clothes. There has been no report back from the lab. The first samples must have been sent off on Thursday — perhaps this means, at least, that they weren’t marked urgent. The fact that Serena Williams has been here and done this, is enormously cheering. Some memory of the contents. I observe that “Wooly Thoughts” doesn’t figure i...I thought of se...

Sunday, August 02, 2015. Brilliant, Mary Lou! Not only does it back-track the game, but the machine doesn’t regard it as a loss, so it doesn’t affect my overall percentage. I play at about 80%. I wonder if there’s a way to delete this game before I have thrown the rest of my life away. I’ve done it before, on another machine. And, while you’re here, no, I haven’t read Tana French. I’ll remember the name. She calls the whole thing “the double moss stitch marathon”. Absolutely. That Perdita, so witty!

http://jeanmiles.blogspot.com/2015/08/my-husband-is-ill.html
Friday, August 07, 2015. My husband is ill. He was a bit less-than-well when I saw him, as usual, at lunchtime, complaining of abdominal pain, a bit less nimble than of late. A nurse, summoned to address the problem, said he looked a bit peely-wally and tested his blood sugar (which was fine). I left making sure they knew he needed attention, but otherwise unworried. If I’m not here tomorrow, it probably means bad news from the hospital. Here is the link again:. More good thoughts here. Here’s hopi...
Jean's Knitting: June 2015
http://jeanmiles.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
Tuesday, June 30, 2015. Various tidbits from Zite:. Arne and Carlos sock yarn from Regia:. What fun it must be to knit! A free knit-your-own Andy Murray pattern. It's the one from Holt & Bailey's “Knit Your Own Scotland”. I must have told you about the time I saw a much more substantial knitted Andy Murray in a shop window in Alyth – 18” high, as I remember. Alas, I didn't have a camera with me, and when I next was there, it was gone. An article about Shetland knitting. I'll just post it as is. Helen and...
To Swatch, or Not to Swatch - A Foolish Spin on Life
http://www.spinfoolish.com/to-swatch-or-not-to-swatch
A Foolish Spin on Life. I spin, I knit, I am foolish. To Swatch, or Not to Swatch. That is, indeed, the question. I have a love/hate relationship with swatching – and frankly, so do most Knitters that I know. And let’s face it, it’s no wonder, swatching is a gigantic pain in the butt. Imagine: you get back from the yarn store or a favorite local fiber fair. With an absolutely breathtaking skein of yarn that is just perfect. Everything is right with the world. Then you see it. Not fuss around with swathes.
Module 8: Imparting Wisdom part 1. | Cari-d Away with Fiber

Cari-d Away with Fiber. Fiber: my soft place to land. Laquo; Module 7, Part 2: Balance. Module 8, part 2: Paisley is my favorite color. Module 8: Imparting Wisdom part 1. On March 14, 2015. Now, that’s a lofty concept, isn’t it? Whom I never would have met if it weren’t for fiber, the internet and this course I have found that loving sister-connection that has never managed to work with my own siblings. I have gained family, friends and mentors all over the world. Dorothea. In Virginia, Suzy. I think I&#...

Unraveled Wednesday’s Knitting and Reading. March 28, 2018. I’m still here. Still knitting, reading, teaching, doing each next thing. As usual on Wednesdays, I’m rushing to get everything ready for my marathon teaching day on Thursday, but I did want to pop in for Unraveled Wednesday. On the reading front, I picked up. By Mohsin Hamid and. Don’t Let Go. By Harlan Coban at the airport. Don’t Let Go. Don’t Let Go. The other book on my mind these days is Tolstoy’s. The Death of Ivan. Over at As Kat Knits!

Saturday, July 4, 2015. I haven't posted anything in a long time and the last article was pretty crappy at that. Did come across a cool video that has some funny pickup lines. I thought I put on here. Tuesday, September 2, 2014. 11 Tools an Electrician Uses. Tools are very important when it comes to an electrician and how they perform their job - just ask my husband! He's always buying new tools! The best multi tools are small and can save an electrician from dragging the whole tool chest with him or her...
Knit Pox!
Highly contagious, and there is no cure. Sunday, January 3, 2010. Why, Hello, and Just a Little Test. Well, I haven't posted in a long, long time. Maybe this will soon change. 2009 was a crazy year. What will 2010 have in store? I did get an iPod Touch for my birthday in November. Tonight I downloaded a free app called BlogPress that should let me post from my happy little device. This is my test post. If you are reading this, it worked. Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone. Labels: chicken Viking hat.
