Knits and Noms: Sour Cream Muffins

http://www.knitsandnoms.blogspot.com/2013/08/sour-cream-muffin.html

Adventures on the road to creativity. Monday, August 12, 2013. This recipe from Joepastry.com has taken over from the other muffin recipe I had been using. Thanks to the acidity in the sour cream, it is far more moist. Which equals yummy. :). His notes on muffins are super helpful. In fact, his notes on just about anything are super helpful. Read on here: http:/ www.joepastry.com/2012/making-blueberry-muffins/. 10 ounces (2 cups) all-purpose flour. 2 teaspoons baking powder. 525 ounces (3/4 cup) sugar.

Adventures on the road to creativity. Sunday, January 27, 2013. Fluffy pancakes, sans-buttermilk. So It’s a Sunday afternoon and you realize that you are hungry. You have not had lunch yet. Ah…the thought occurs to you: pancakes are a typical Sunday thing! Hmmm…let’s have a roommate Sunday pancake lunch. Problem—no buttermilk. Unfortunate, because buttermilk adds that…something that makes pancakes so wonderful. Fluffy, moist buttermilk pancakes. Pancakes don’t call for buttermilk! 3 cups all-purpose flour.

Logbook 98: August 2012

http://silver-swan.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html

On Wednesday I discovered this charming bullfrog hiding under the creek bank where I was eating lunch between classes. He was roaring so loudly that the water rippled around his throat. My gorgeous basil plant, one of the joys of this summer, turned into pesto yesterday. I cut off about half of it to use for pesto, and I must confess that it sort of felt like committing murder. The pesto was delicious, though. Posted by E.R. The first week of school closed today with two events, one sad and one happy.

Now Playing: Bach, Sonata for flute in E Major, "Adagio ma non tanto.". Clover has taken to carrying my boots and Scott's house slippers around the house. The process is somewhat disturbing: one at first hears the thunk-thunk-thunk as she hauls them up the basement stairs and then her baby-like whining as she proceeds through the kitchen, across the dining room, and up the next flight of stairs. I'm always startled until I remember that our cat is neurotic. Posted by E.R. Posted by E.R. Posted by E.R.

Lately in The Brothers Karamazov. One of the brothers has been accused of murdering their father. His interrogation by the local authorities takes chapters and chapters, but buried in the paragraphs of dialogue are revealing gems about this particular brother's character, and how Dostoyevsky understands him in context of the story. Logbook 98: April 2013

http://silver-swan.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html

I just finished Eric Metaxas's new biography of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy. I have to say that from the title (with its all-too-obvious echo of John Le Carre's novel) to the writing style itself, I found the biography to be somewhat long-winded. He lionized Bonhoeffer a lot more than I was prepared to swallow, which reminded me of why I don't usually like reading biographies. On contemplating marriage in the midst of World War II:]. That life only really begins when it ...

Recently I've managed to make it into the heart of The Brothers Karamazov. At least if you define "heart" in terms of number of pages, and intensity of action. One of the brothers may have just murdered someone accidentally. We'll see. Nature is beautiful and sinless, and we, only we, are sinful and foolish, and we don't understand that life is heaven.". We are each responsible to all for all, it's only that men don't know this. If they knew it, the world would be a paradise at once.". I can begin to und...

Essay 2, Part 3. No matter what kind of bread I’m holding at the table, though, the word itself reminds me of the inescapable link to my own beliefs. Curiously, bread. 8217;s etymology is irrevocably braided with Christianity. Conventional wisdom would say, “Of course, the Middle Ages were full of medieval Christians,” but it’s actually surprising to me that bread. Has the pedigree it does, given the pagan antecedents of the Anglo-Saxons. Bread. Had been used before, bread. This, too, reverberates with C...

Thanksgiving Break: A Brief Photo Essay. I spent many hours this break writing thank you notes, but now they're finally all done! Well, except for the ones to Scott's family members, but since I delegated those to him, I'm just going to buy stamps for them, too, and hope for the best. Otherwise, we've spent the afternoon very quietly. One of the complex board games Scott loves has deeply absorbed all his attention. Nice graphics, if a bit heavy on the purple, very Castlevania in play style, but far to short. Tuesday, 25 October 2011. Every house needs play silks. This morning, Emma pulled the play silks out of the toy box. I bought them about three years ago as seven undyed silk scarves and dyed them in rainbow colours with food colouring and vinegar. Since then they have been a firm favourite in this house.
