Newton's knitting: Leap
http://newtonsknitting.blogspot.com/2009/09/leap.html
Friday, September 11, 2009. A teacher read this essay today for the high school students, in remembrance of September 11. And though posting essays/poetry/etc. is not usually my "thing," I found it very moving. So I thought I'd share it. The poem is by Brian Doyle, and I believe it first appeared in the American Scholar magazine. I found it through PBS. A couple leaped from the south tower, hand in hand. They reached for each other and their hands met and they jumped. The mayor reported the mist. No one ...

Newton's knitting: March 2009
http://newtonsknitting.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html
Sunday, March 29, 2009. I must have done something good. That's the only explanation, really, for the shower of good fortune that came my way this week. On Thursday, I picked up the kids from school and came home to find a package. (Is there anything more exciting than an unexpected package? Inside was a lovely belated birthday present from Amy. That's Paca Peds alpaca blend sock yarn, and a project bag she sewed herself. Squee, handmade gifts! It's gorgeous, right? Socks are my keep-in-my-purse knitting...

Yarns & Tall Tales: Jail Time
http://yarnsandtalltales.blogspot.com/2006/10/jail-time.html
Yarns and Tall Tales. A Collection of Anecdotes, Occasionally Embellished for Dramatic Purposes. Monday, October 09, 2006. My dad and I have a strange relationship. When I go home to visit, our interactions consist of a grunt of hello and an obligatory hug once in a while. Then he goes to his studio and tinkers with something and I go to my room and tinker with something. But I know he loves me, because occasionally he’ll yell at me. I don’t know how I possibly missed it. I had to. Dad said in the car.

Newton's knitting: new, again
http://newtonsknitting.blogspot.com/2009/08/new-again.html
Thursday, August 20, 2009. With any sort of luck, this will be my last post about starting a new job. Wednesday was my first day - just new teacher training, really - at my new school, South Shore Charter Public School. SSCPS is a K-12 school, the first charter school in Mass, I'm told. It was founded with a focus on community service, multiple-intelligence learning, and the belief that school is not just preparatory, that kids need to know that what they are doing now. But she has decided to move to be ...

Donna's Drama's: KNIT ME A SWETAH
http://donnasdramas.blogspot.com/2006/11/knit-me-swetah.html
My little dog - a heartbeat at my feet." Edith Wharton. Thursday, November 02, 2006. KNIT ME A SWETAH. This is all dog hair would you believe? I say hair because Tessa is a Lhasa Apso mix and they don't have fur or shed. They have hair. She only weighs about 20 punds but all this hair came from her! I really want to save it to knit a warm and toasty sweater but it is all full of matts! Such a waste of good potential yarn! Posted by Donna at 11/02/2006 11:37:00 AM. Thursday, November 02, 2006 4:16:00 PM.
