Kolibrie - The First Mate's Journal. Monday, January 13, 2014. Monday, January 13, 2014. The winds were still up and rain was just ending and still threatening when I got up to shower and listen to the weather. Wayne’s stomach wasn’t well on top of things so we decided to just stay today. Axel came by for coffee and English muffins. We swung by Azaya and checked out the rat damage. First Mate S/V Kolibrie. Kolibrie - The First Mate's Journal. Sunday, February 27, 2011. Exuma Park, Warderick Wells Exuma to Tarpum Bay, Eleuthera 44.03 NM. Sunday, February 27, 2011. A Mahi is a wondrous sight. They have all the colors of the rainbow just shimmering and changing depending on their mood. This one was chasing the flying fish out of the water! We watched him come soaring out of the water through the waves 3-4 times and I just couldn’t believe it! Talk about letting go with the inhibitions! First Mate S/V Kolibrie.

Kolibrie - The First Mate's Journal. Tuesday, January 31, 2012. Tuesday, January 31, 2012 Wow the end of the month? We were going to put the outboard on the dink using our main halyard this morning when Eric came by and said… “Why don’t you try it out in the tank first? Sounded good to me. Heck if we got it on the dink, then couldn’t start it, we’d have to get it back off to return it to AJ when he got here. 8220;See if can start it.”. 8220;See if YOU can start it.”. Wayne gave it several yanks…. The guy...

Kolibrie - The First Mate's Journal. Monday, March 12, 2012. Monday, March 12, 2012 Thompson Bay Long Island. On a brighter note – there are definitely worse places to be holed up than here at Salt Pond Long Island! News from out and about –. We heard from Aurora in the Virgins. They’re going to put in to the same boatyard as last year and they really like it there. So we might get to see them again if we don’t get to make it this year, then next year! I keep forgetting that we brought some movies with u...

Kolibrie - The First Mate's Journal. Friday, December 31, 2010. Friday, December 31, 2010. The dog was replaced with pirates and revelers for the evening. Yes there are pirates in Florida. They collect here for the time between the old and the new. It was wonderful to see them all collecting for their festivities. In talking to them, they do this each year and seem to relish this time in their lives. It was wonderful to see them enjoying themselves and each other. First Mate S/V Kolibrie. Cuban sandwiche...

Kolibrie - The First Mate's Journal. Monday, December 31, 2012. Dec 28th thru 31st The end of another year. Friday, December 28, 2012. No rain to make me close up the hatches last night - Yay! It was nice not to have to get up and race around closing all the hatches and nicer still just to have all the hatches and ports open for the breeze. We were able to make contact and found them at the end of the Bay near the canal by Dewey. Aw so good to see Alibi and Celtic Rover sitting in the harbor! We really e...

Kolibrie - The First Mate's Journal. Tuesday, January 1, 2013. Tuesday, January 1, 2013. Ah, the start of a new year. Hello 2013! We slept on and off all night last night. Cars and golf carts, barking dogs and lights kept breaking up our sleep but it was all good. There are worse places to sleep and I actually felt fairly secure. We had the windows cracked but it was still muggy warm. I was grateful that it didn’t rain so we’d have to close the windows all the way. First Mate S/V Kolibrie.

Kolibrie - The First Mate's Journal. Sunday, March 31, 2013. Easter Sunday; Francis Bay, St. John’s U.S. Virgin Islands. Sunday, March 31, 2013. View of St. John's as I sit in the cockpit with my coffee. Looking toward St. Thomas in the distance - shrouded in the clouds and moisture. Maho Camp on the side of the hill. We’ve dallied here a while now. How could we not? Another sip of coffee as I watch the mist sheet into rain onto the island. Happy Easter from St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands!
