Kyla's Travel Journal

A student's blog about Turkey, language learning, and the challenges and joys of being an exchange student. Friday, June 8, 2012. Dinner tonight was quieter than usual. We ate on the porch, mostly ignoring the mosquitoes buzzing around us and ate the green beans, rice, and stuffed peppers in the growing darkness. Sometimes my host Dad tried to break the silence with something encouraging. It will be hotter tomorrow" he said "but your going by the sea, Kyla, that will be nice.". Wednesday, May 23, 2012.

Kyla's Travel Journal: April 2012

http://www.kylas-travel-journal.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html

A student's blog about Turkey, language learning, and the challenges and joys of being an exchange student. Tuesday, April 24, 2012. In my opinion, no one can ever go too often to Antalya. Maybe I'm prejudiced, having only been there twice, but there is something about the looking over the Mediterranean from a castle with the sun beating down on you, and some sand still between your toes from the beach that morning that makes you want to keep coming back. As my Turkish Literature teacher put it:. Most of...

A student's blog about Turkey, language learning, and the challenges and joys of being an exchange student. Sunday, February 26, 2012. I met with a friend after school a few days ago, and he suggested I watch this video on Turkish tea. I suggest everyone reading this watch it. The clip has a short intro in Turkish, but the rest is in English. One thing that caught my eye (ear? There is a tendency to blame religion for these shortcomings. Many people in Western countries (Not just the USA) believe, co...

Izzy in Turkiye: December 2011

http://izzyinturkiye.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html

From Hollis, NH to Ankara, Turkey - A Rotary Exchange Journey. Sunday, December 4, 2011. Afiyet Olsun, İzzy Style. Contrary to what the title may suggest, this post is not about food. I promise I will write about Turkish cuisine very soon. It is amazing, it is delicious, it is fantastic, but no, this post isn't that post. This post is about books. If you know me, you probably have known for a long time my love of words. And if you don't know me, you should figure that out fast. I love. Bon appetit, enjoy!

From Hollis, NH to Ankara, Turkey - A Rotary Exchange Journey. Sunday, September 25, 2011. On Being a Turk. I don't care how many people like being complimented on their appearance. Appearance compliments are all well and good, but I'm sure that all other exchangers would agree that the moment that someone thinks that your accent sounds legit, you immediately have a happy dance spazz attack there in the street. Or on the couch. Or wherever. At least I do. Hurrah, for I missed it muchly! Posted by I.Z.

From Hollis, NH to Ankara, Turkey - A Rotary Exchange Journey. Friday, June 24, 2011. O Müzik Sever (She Loves the Music). I honestly have to say that I love Turkey. I haven't left yet (and nor do I know where I'm going.) but I already know I'm going to love it. I love Turkish food - when we go to Mediterranean restaurants, I will give a jaunty ' teşekkürler. Granted, half the time the waiters look at me as if I have six heads, but sometimes I will get a grin and a ' bir şey değil. Back I could eat kebaps.

From Hollis, NH to Ankara, Turkey - A Rotary Exchange Journey. Saturday, October 29, 2011. Many Things of Much Importance. First off, today is 29 Ekim - Cumhuriyet Bayramı - the Turkish independence day. On this day in 1923, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, father of the Turkish Republic brought modern Türkiye into being. Turkish flags hang all around Ankara, as well as posters of Mustafa Kemal, the first president of the Turkish Republic. They fly these giant flags between the different apartment buildings :).

From Hollis, NH to Ankara, Turkey - A Rotary Exchange Journey. Friday, July 6, 2012. I never claimed to be very good at keeping up with things- my diaries are almost always left half blank, forgotten on a shelf somewhere; my stories end without barely beginning; my videos remain as choppy clips; and my blog, well, my blog doesn't get updated too frequently. And now. it's done. And now. I'm going home? How can I think of 'home' as home? Sizi çok özleyeceğim ama gene döneceğim ve buluşacağız!

Izzy in Turkiye: Evleri Değistirdim - Changing Families

http://izzyinturkiye.blogspot.com/2012/04/im-still-bad-at-keeping-up.html

From Hollis, NH to Ankara, Turkey - A Rotary Exchange Journey. Wednesday, April 4, 2012. Evleri Değistirdim - Changing Families. I'm still bad at keeping up. WHAT HAPPENED? In the beginning I would post once or twice a week, and now I don't even have time to post once every two months. Okay. Let's go. Moving families is stressful. My thought process: Poop! I'll have to truck all this stuff back to the States and its like a 22 kilo weight thingy and- Gack! Fact: I fit in my suitcases, my things do not.

From Hollis, NH to Ankara, Turkey - A Rotary Exchange Journey. Sunday, April 29, 2012. Aa, bugün çok iyiydi! Gelecek Cuma günü, arkadaşım Mathe'nin doğum günü olacak (o da bir öğrenci değişım, Brezilya'dan), ama biz bu hafta sonu kutladık. Arkadaşlarımla ben Luna Park'a gittim. Çok eğlendik! Today was such a fantastic day! Next Friday is my friend Mathe's birthday (he's another exchange student, from Brazil), but we celebrated it today. With my friends, we went to Luna Park. May a rant about cheek kissing bring you joy. Post Scrit: Here is a semi-transcript of what goes down in the video if you can't or don't want to watch it. Everyone says that your first kiss is awkward. Posted by I.Z. Saturday, August 27, 2011. Kahvaltı var. Pancake var. Reçel var. Şurup var. ÇOK GÜZEL! I put in too much süt. Izzy in Turkiye: En Büyük Galatasaray!!!

http://izzyinturkiye.blogspot.com/2012/05/en-buyuk-galatasaray.html

From Hollis, NH to Ankara, Turkey - A Rotary Exchange Journey. Sunday, May 13, 2012. I am from New England, a place where we take baseball seriously. Where we cheer for the Boston Red Sox. or whoever beats the New York Yankees. Where we sing "Sweet Caroline" -BA BA BA! And we'll "Take [You] Out to the Ballgame." I am a Sox fan, and proud of it. I think this might be why I can easily understand the rivalry between Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe - the two biggest football (soccer) teams in Turkey. On the edge ...

Serious Business: Freedom of speech and being offended. 8220;It's now very common to hear people say, 'I'm rather offended by that.' As if that gives them certain rights. It's actually nothing more. than a whine. 'I find that offensive.' It has no meaning; it has no purpose; it has no reason to be respected as a phrase. 'I am offended by that.' Well, so fucking what." - Stephen Fry. To feel or become offended, take insult.

Hidup seKilas | Mencari Jati Diri, Berselaras Dengan Kodrat

Mencari Jati Diri, Berselaras Dengan Kodrat. Ramadhan, saatnya berkaca diri. Juli 11, 2013.
