Learning Every Minute: Hindsight

http://learningeveryminute.blogspot.com/2011/01/hindsight.html

Wording our family learning adventures as we live them. Monday, January 24, 2011. I grew up wanting to be a teacher. I could feel it in my bones–I was. To teach. I taught my younger friend Robin everything I knew about playing Barbies. I taught the kids in the trailer park how to jump clay hills on their bikes and how. And so our homeschooling journey began. Twenty-three years and five kids later, I look back over our homeschooling adventure with a perplexing mix of thoughts. The Deep Blue Sea. Easterlin...

Learning Every Minute: October 2010

http://learningeveryminute.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html

Wording our family learning adventures as we live them. Monday, October 4, 2010. Okay, Maybe Not a Yo-Yo, but More Like a Roller Coaster. Our family educational adventure could be viewed as a microcosm of life in many ways. Actually, after having homeschooled my children for 22 years, it has been. We heard last week that there is still a good chance Matt will soon be hired at the museum. We picked up his khakis over the weekend, and he is eager to get started. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Learning Every Minute: Just Mama

http://learningeveryminute.blogspot.com/2011/01/just-mama.html

Wording our family learning adventures as we live them. Tuesday, January 4, 2011. I remember sitting in my chair feeling small and insignificant and meaningless. My name was not mentioned. No notes read aloud or magical moment for me to stand on the stage and be recognized as a teacher. I sat there in my chair just me. Just a mom. Now, years later, I think about the whole picture, this whole 22 years of homeschooling picture, and I ponder that term: Just a mom. January 5, 2011 at 4:39 PM. Write, Pray, Lo...

Learning Every Minute: May 2010

http://learningeveryminute.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html

Wording our family learning adventures as we live them. Thursday, May 6, 2010. If this family is one thing, it's flexible. I've always loved the adage, "Blessed are the flexible, for they shall not be bent out of shape." Hopefully the flexibility we've had no choice but to maintain over the years means that our family has a significantly lesser chance of being bent out of shape. Sometimes it feels a bit like bungee-jumping. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). The Deep Blue Sea. Write, Pray, Love.

Learning Every Minute: Looking back a few years

http://learningeveryminute.blogspot.com/2011/01/looking-back-few-years.html

Wording our family learning adventures as we live them. Friday, January 14, 2011. Looking back a few years. I found this on an old education blog I had completely forgotten about. Thought it was worth sharing. There may be more to come from this blog, depending on what I find. RECENT RAMBLINGS ON LEARNING (June 18, 2005). Excerpted from my personal weblog. Read the book, then decide for yourself. After all, that is the whole premise of the book. I got moved into second grade midway through first, and I w...

The Deep Blue Sea: Quiet

http://intothedeepbluesea.blogspot.com/2011/01/quiet.html

The Deep Blue Sea. Wednesday, January 19, 2011. A girl Rosie's age, a friend of many of Rosie's friends, was killed this morning crossing a street half a mile from her school skipping class. My heart wants to scream out of my chest in anguish. She was only fifteen. Thunder and Lightning continues to reach into my soul in classic Natalie Goldberg style. I came back to something simple- I became quiet inside. Who was I looking for? Who could I find? Who are we talking to? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

The Deep Blue Sea. Friday, January 14, 2011. It's been a wild ride, this life of mine. The past few years have been pretty crazy, but good heavens- my whole life has been wild. Maybe soon I will blog a bit more about just how crazy it's been on the whole. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Words In Other Places. The Easterling Homeschool Adventure. The Deep Blue Sea: Dangling

http://intothedeepbluesea.blogspot.com/2011/01/dangling.html

The Deep Blue Sea. Monday, January 17, 2011. It's hard to even determine an order in which to start organizing thoughts. What is most important? What can fall under another decision as opposed to which things need to be deal-breakers? Way too much to think about all at once, and yet the days are marching on and we will eventually have to choose a path. As hard as we are trying to simplify, life is rarely simple. The Deep Blue Sea: 30 Random Things

http://intothedeepbluesea.blogspot.com/2011/01/30-random-things.html

The Deep Blue Sea. Monday, January 24, 2011. We were posting at the Haus lists of 30 Random Things about ourselves. Here's my list. 1 My favorite car color is cream. 2 I have never dyed my hair, but it probably won't be long since the silver hairs are starting to make their presence known a bit too often. 3 I love desserts with lots of nuts. 4 I rarely wear shoes other than flip-flops or sandals. 5 It would take more than one hand to count how many times I have been deserted by "best" friends in my life.

The Deep Blue Sea: Value

http://intothedeepbluesea.blogspot.com/2011/01/value.html

The Deep Blue Sea. Sunday, January 16, 2011. I've been pondering the concept of words having value, or more specifically, whether the value of words imparts value onto the efforts of their writer. Simply put, does what I write have any worth? I know it does for me, even if only in the catharsis of the act of writing. But even for me there is more value than just that; I truly enjoy writing and learn much about myself and life from reading back over what I've written. Beyond me, is there any value?

The Deep Blue Sea: What does the Devil have to do with it?

http://intothedeepbluesea.blogspot.com/2011/01/what-does-devil-have-to-do-with-it.html

The Deep Blue Sea. Tuesday, January 11, 2011. What does the Devil have to do with it? Growing up, I often heard the phrase "between the Devil and the deep blue sea". Presumably it meant something like being between a rock and a hard place. I always smiled when I heard it, thinking to myself, "No dilemma there. I'll take the deep blue sea! I have no desire to be anywhere near anything that could be classified as "the Devil". I will still take the deep blue sea every time. So why another blog?

Learning Every Minute

Wording our family learning adventures as we live them. Monday, January 24, 2011. From a RealHaus post this past December…. Which leaves me pondering: Where is the happy place between teaching our children to question authority and not bend to every whim and blindly jump through every hoop they are told to, and learning the skills and ability to adapt to the “real world” (as though they don’t already live in the real world if they school at home, but I digress)? Did I meet their individual needs? Is ther...
