Broken. | Learning How to Suffer
https://learninghowtosuffer.wordpress.com/2011/07/05/broken
Cycling, travel and other voluntary forms of discomfort. Learning How to Suffer. That’s been the feeling for much of the spring. A great January led into a less-than-awesome February. Patellar tendinitis, apparently, caused by weak, stiff, and inflexible hips. Yes, I am officially a middle-aged cyclist. I’ll leave it to you, Dear Reader, to determine which parts of the Fat Angry Master qualification I need to work on the most. Core Wellness is a team sponsor this year, and they are excellent. I traipsed ...

Cycling, travel and other voluntary forms of discomfort. Learning How to Suffer. Review: “A Very Dark Place” Training Video by The Sufferfest. Sure, we’d all prefer to ride outside all the time, but life doesn’t work that way. Whether for time, child care, or rained-out practices due to venue preservation. Concerns, I find myself on the indoor trainer during the fall cyclocross season almost as much as in the winter, if not more. Sufferfest videos mix race footage and on-screen workout prompts. In fact, ...

https://learninghowtosuffer.wordpress.com/2011/10/04/race-report-in-brief-winchester-apple-cross
Cycling, travel and other voluntary forms of discomfort. Learning How to Suffer. Race Report, in Brief: Winchester Apple Cross. I’m just out of time to do this report properly right now, but aiming to post something before I forget it all. We all (me, wife, son, daughter) headed out to Winchester for the Apple Cross on Sunday. The rain of the previous. Month, plus the 2:00 start time, meant the course was torn up and downright boggy in lots of places. I had a great time. We needed all of that. ItR...

Cycling, travel and other voluntary forms of discomfort. Learning How to Suffer. Love me some Tacchino. 8230;even if I had to miss it this time around. Life intervened, and besides discovering that when I’m stressed and can’t ride my default reaction is to eat more (great recipe for maintaining racing weight, eh? I was utterly slammed. I didn’t arrange this one, but Core Wellness and Physical Therapy. Who has helped keep me aligned and happy. I might be most proud, however, of linking up with an old frie...

Cycling, travel and other voluntary forms of discomfort. Learning How to Suffer. DCCX 2011 Race Report: A Difference of a Year. Amazing the difference in perspective from one year to the next. Bottom line up front: same place as last year — 9th in the 3/4. Last year, I was pretty ecstatic. This year, I wanted better. That said, I’m pleased. I went into the race fighting off some sniffles, courtesy of my daughter, and still had it for a solid placing. There’s more to come later this season. I’m not ...

http://mingshan2.blogspot.com/2012/08/summer-fun.html
Friday, August 10, 2012. One of the hardest parts about being pregnant (for me) is forgoing group rides, which is how I get a lot of my exercise and adult social interaction. I'm not quite back on the bike yet. Maybe next week? But I think about it all the time. I rode the Grand Fundo. I finished up the summer of 2011 with Tour of the Unattended. My team, HUP, helped put it on, so I got to help select some of the stages. It was so much fun and amazingly, I won the Prospect Hill climb, probably becaus...
Why the Snobbishness? | buryyourself
https://buryyourself.wordpress.com/2012/06/02/why-the-snobbishness
June 2, 2012. Neither motivations are wrong or more right, just different. Let’s address the unwelcoming bit. In a group ride two things are of concern, speed and safety. When you’re riding inches away from someone at 25 mph you’ve got to be able to trust them. Short of knowing them personally we’re forced to make snap judgements based on appearance. Does he look the part? How’s his form? What about when we’re riding solo, surely there’s time for a wave then right? This entry was posted in Bike Racing.

Learning How to Suffer | Cycling, travel and other voluntary forms of discomfort.
Cycling, travel and other voluntary forms of discomfort. Learning How to Suffer. The goal is simple: ride 500km between December 24 and December 31. I rode the Festive 500. I hadn’t much thought about it this year, until something clicked in late November and I. Not at all an auspicious start. The plan had been to get up early to tack some extra km on the ride in to work. Did I mention I have largely lost the ability to wake up early? 40 km done/ 460 remaining. A big day (or two? December 31: Part 1.

Learning to Teach
The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery. Mark Van Doren. Sunday, June 28, 2015. First off, teaching was great! It wasn't always the best (I had one class that really tried my patience), but it was always worth the time and effort. It was amazing to see my students progress through the year and how they always wanted to keep trying. Well, most of them wanted to keep trying most of the time. My students were great. I will always have fond memories of my first year. Sunday, September 28, 2014.
