Library Story: The Generations Interact - The Learning Librarian

http://learninglibrarian.weebly.com/home/library-story-the-generations-interact

Thoughts on Working in Libraries. Library Story: The Generations Interact. The teenage boy flipped through a computer game magazine while the elderly man solved the week's chess puzzle. As they waited for the chess club facilitator to arrive, I overheard the boy comment, "I like to eat cake, but I don't cook! The elderly man responded enthusiastically, "I love to cook! And off he went talking about pies and cakes and recipes. My heart swelled with pride. From The Reference Desk. I Work at a Public Library.

Library Story: "I Was Intimidated" - The Learning Librarian

http://learninglibrarian.weebly.com/home/library-story-i-was-intimidated

Thoughts on Working in Libraries. Library Story: "I Was Intimidated". A woman came to the library and asked to use the computer. Then she started talking to us about how she was intimidated to come inside because she didn't know how to use a computer and there were so many teenagers around who are good with technology. We assured her that everyone has to learn and no one is born knowing how to use a computer. I checked my e-mail, found a job, and sent an e-mail expressing interest all by myself!

Thoughts on Working in Libraries. Christmas Tree, Dunce Cap, Princess Hat. To those who believe I need to learn how to relax and have more fun, I offer the following evidence:. Social Expectations and Responsibility. I'm having difficulty expressing my thoughts on this, but here is an imperfect attempt to puzzle through a complexity. I work as a director at a small town library. Outside of the library, I play the flute, hike, and sew clothes. From The Reference Desk. I Work at a Public Library.

Thoughts on Working in Libraries. Everyday Good: Romantic Dewey. An employee who has worked in libraries for about two months called the Dewey Decimal system "beautiful" and "romantic." This gives me high hopes that another man will be added to the library profession in due course. I work as a director at a small town library. Outside of the library, I play the flute, hike, and sew clothes. From The Reference Desk. I Work at a Public Library. Letters to a Young Librarian. Create a free website.

Musings from a librarian: Thing 22: Volunteering

http://nikki-musingsfromalibrarian.blogspot.com/2011/10/thing-22-volunteering.html

Musings from a librarian. Monday, 10 October 2011. What an excellent post by Jo. So what are my own experiences of volunteers and volunteering? Very much like Jo, after finishing my library qualification I found it hard to find employment. Jobs just didn't seem to exist. I'm possibly also guilty of trying to get my thesis finished and passing, that job applications were the last things on my mind! We also have a lot of volunteer editors for our local history site Herts Memories. Currently my authority do...

The Learning Librarian - Home

Thoughts on Working in Libraries. Year End Review - 2016. From February 2016 to January 2017, we were short the full-time Public Services and Programming Librarian position. There were patches in there when we were also short a part-time Circulation Assistant. With a FTE of 5, being that short staffed is a huge drain. I spent much of my time running the front desk and shelving, not working on administrative and leadership projects. 2016 was the year of surviving. Around December, I was discouraged becaus...

Personal memories of libraries. January 7, 2015 · 1:06 pm. 2015 beckons with excitement. A week of 2015 has passed. Already! This was my Tweet-of-the-morning, this morning. (Will I ever get past micro blogging and onto more serious blogging? Hubby took me on a lovely holiday-cum-sort-out-our-storage break in South Africa. There was fun and laughter, family and friends. And tears for the emotional moments. Like finding this…. Our first date…. My dad…proud as punch with his grandson. I guess this blog will...

Friday, March 28, 2008. Wednesday, June 27, 2007. 23 is my lucky number. Plus, I am feeling like a panting dog with my tongue hanging out just racing to the end of this Learning 2.0 treadmill! I could have used another 3 weeks, but what can you do? My least favororite discovery was wikis. I don't think I will be needing to create one in the forseeable future. Would I participate in another Learning 2.0 journey? Just let me catch my breath first. Something I can use! Http:/ www.youtube.com/watch? We can't...

Here is a quick peek into three publications on continuing professional development (CPD) that the Library has recently purchased. I have only spent a few minutes with each one but hope these brief notes might encourage others to give them a go. Learning librarianship

Hello, I'm a student of LIS living for the chance to experience something different in every adventure. I'm currently stuck in the city completing my required hours of library work. My other stuff are available at:. Library promotional materials (5). Should it stay or should it go? Well, this is my first time exercising my judgment on what books to weed out! My first pile of books. Books that are too “battered.”. Books that have nothing to do with Asia. Books that are outdated. 8230;this Sanskrit book.
