Continue south on Rt 276 to Brevard, NC and you will pass the Pink Beds, the Cradle of Forestry, and Looking Glass Falls. To check out the terrain click on Hybrid on the map on the right.

Historic buildings, wildlife viewing (including elk). A variety of historic buildings have been preserved in the valley, including two churches, a school, and several homes and outbuildings. This is the best place in the park to see historic frame buildings from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Visitors to Cataloochee also enjoy viewing deer, elk, turkey, and other wildlife. We meet at the Rec. Center in Waynesville at 7:30AM and load our gear. Supposed to head to the Great Smoky Mountain National Parlk. But forcast thunderstorms for 9AM prompted a trip in the other direction. By 8:30 we’re at Looking Glass Falls. It was running hard, given the local rain. This county has over 250 waterfalls. Looking Glass is perfect facility for us as the group checked out new tripods and extension tube. Heading further south next stop is the Pisgah Educational Center. The Cradle of Forestry.

Wednesday, June 29, 2011. Is Morning the Best? First, let’s ask, what are we wishing to photograph? If it’s things, morning may not make any difference. But, if it’s things in great light - those award winning images - then EARLY morning is your ticket. Check when sunrise is expected. Be on location 1 hr. prior. Why, because that’s when the magic has a good chance of happening. Also, you will have time to get organized and get your head into the moment. If you meditate, you will know what I mean.

I had an 8 day birding to trip in eastern China with a wonderful guide Lin Zhang based in Shanghai. He is perfectly fluent in English. We visited 5 different locales. His website is here. This bird is IDed by the black head, white neck collar and the rest of the bird is olive. The 8" Chestnut Bulbul. The 85" Brown-breasted Bulbul. The last was the 9" Mountain Bulbul.
