Reflections of a Palestinian Jew. Wednesday, May 07, 2008. Why I Am a Zionist. The following is a powerful "I believe ." statement by a man I only know by name, but respect and to a great extent, agree with. My Yom HaAtzmaut contribution to "Second Thoughts" this 60th Independence Day, 2008. I am a Zionist because I share the past, present, and future of my people, the Jewish people. Our nerve endings are uniquely intertwined. When one of us suffers, we share the pain; when many of us advance com...I am ...

The writer is head of 'Bet Av - Renewal and Creativity in Torah' and former director of the Pardes Institute. He's long been involved in programs for religious and secular Israelis. Berkovits's latest book, She-asani Gever - Talmudic Discussions in the Eye of a Storm, is scheduled for publication by Yediot Aharonot in the coming months. Singer, in rejecting this position, raised serious constitut...

Second Thoughts: Anti-Zionism - facts (and fictions) By Howard Jacobson
http://machshavashenya.blogspot.com/2010/07/anti-zionism-facts-and-ctions-by-howard.html
Reflections of a Palestinian Jew. Thursday, July 29, 2010. Anti-Zionism - facts (and fictions) By Howard Jacobson. YBA As one (as yet unpublished) writer of fiction which flirts with Jewish and Israeli issues, I found Mr. Jacobson's insight into the creation of his own novel fascinating reading. Enjoy! Profoundly self-regarding," you mean, was his wife's response. But then she wasn't Jewish and so couldn't understand just how ashamed in his Jewishness an ashamed Jew could be. It is a bitter irony that he ...

Second Thoughts: December 2010
http://machshavashenya.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html
Reflections of a Palestinian Jew. Thursday, December 02, 2010. YBA - I had to share this! I've been saying something similar since the early seventies.]. Only part of the story was the Maccabees. By rabbi Meir Kahane H”YD. What happened in that era more than 2000 years ago? What led a handful of Jews to rise up in violence against the enemy? And precisely who WAS the enemy? What were they fighting FOR and who were they fighting AGAINST? No, at best Chanukah emerges as a needless holiday if not a foolish ...

Second Thoughts: February 2010
http://machshavashenya.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html
Reflections of a Palestinian Jew. Friday, February 26, 2010. Abraham and the Freedom of Speach. I distinctly remembering the moment when I read Abraham's debate with G-d! 8221; (Genesis 18:25). Recall the patriarch Abraham's questioning God's decision to destroy Sodom: "*What if there should be fifty righteous people in the midst of the city? Would you still stamp it out rather than spare the place for the sake of the fifty righteous people within it? 8220;(Genesis 18:23-25.). Going further, by telling u...

Second Thoughts: September 2008
http://machshavashenya.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html
Reflections of a Palestinian Jew. Thursday, September 25, 2008. Israel Prize winner Professor Ze'ev Sternhell was lightly wounded after a small pipe bomb at the entrance of his home in Jerusalem exploded overnight Wednesday. He was taken to a Jerusalem hospital early Thursday. (JPost.com Sept 25, 2008). It of course is fascinating to see how the Left fights for the rights of the Arabs dedicating to destroying Israel, yet when someone supposedly attacks them, you should see the gloves come off! A 'task fo...

Second Thoughts: December 2009
http://machshavashenya.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html
Reflections of a Palestinian Jew. Friday, December 18, 2009. Why I Don't Demonstrate. I used to. There isn't a demonstration connected to Eretz Israel that some representive of our family hasn't participated it, at least since our return in 1992. The reason I personally no longer participate stems from two separate reasons. Tzippi Hutiel said it best when she participated in the Press Conference on Saturday Night. The issue we should be protesting is the bankruptcy of the Israeli Democratic process!
