Friday, January 11, 2013. Chrimas and New Year in pictures. We spent New Year's Eve at home, it was cold and rainy and generally gross outside. For dinner we ordered takeout from Gus's and I made a flourless chocolate cake for dessert. I bought some silly hats and sparklers too. We lit the sparklers on the front porch and George found them pretty fascinating. 2012 really blessed us and I hope that 2013 will be just as kind! My other blog about the trials and tribulations of infertility. Burbs and the Bees.

Sunday, November 18, 2012. I finished the Molly hat, just in time for cooler weather. It's very fall, from the persimmon/cinnamon color of the yarn to the cable and textured stitches. Normally it wouldn't have taken me more than a week to knit but it's harder for me to find knitting time so it took about twice that. The pattern is well-written and I'd definitely use it again. For my next project, which will probably take forever to complete, I cast on the Estelle sweater. Monday, November 12, 2012. Hi I&...

Monday, June 25, 2012. It's been very warm so the garden has been growing pretty well. We also had two days of heavy rainfall last week which probably kicked things into gear too. Some of the wildflowers have started to bloom, even though the Morning Glory looks like it's threatening to choke out a few of them. The two happy squash plants are producing tiny baby squash. The other two plants seem to be growth-stunted. Wednesday, June 20, 2012. The shelves we were going to make ended up not being made....

Thursday, June 13, 2013. A delicious dinner of moscato, prosciutto, genoa salami, brie, and smoked cheddar. Eaten around the coffee table. Pizza from Hog and Hominy. I *finally* got to go there, met a friend for lunch and it was delicious. I am going to have to drag Doug there, it might be a little too hip for his tastes. Strawberry Chocolate ice box cake (recipe here). Happy baby in a sink. Unhappy baby going to see Stingray Bay at the Memphis Zoo (his pointing finger is killing me). Burbs and the Bees.

short + rose: June/July Reads
http://roseam21.blogspot.com/2013/07/junejuly-reads.html
Thursday, July 25, 2013. Claire DeWitt and the City of the Dead. Claire DeWitt and the Bohemian Highway. Plus Doug and I listened to Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls. By David Sedaris on the way to/from the beach. I heard about the Claire DeWitt books via NPR books. Snapper was another book I heard about on NPR, it was described as a 'love letter to Indiana' . It's also a series of shorter stories with the same narrator/character, a style I usually might dislike but it works here. Get Stitchy with Sarah.

Tuesday, October 02, 2012. A new fall hat yarn p*rn. Hudson and the color is Cinnamon but I think it reminds me of a persimmon. I bought it at Happy Knits. And they have some other really lovely colors. For the pattern I pulled the Molly. Hat out of my Ravelry queue. So far it's knitting up really quickly and has a super easy pattern, which is great for my addled brain. These gorgeous skeins are what I got with this round of the Madelinetosh Magnolia Club. This first is Tosh Merino Light in Astrid Gray:.

Sunday, July 29, 2012. Our tiny IVF miracle arrived one week early on July 24 after a quick labor, weighing 6 pounds, 9 ounces. It's a boy and he has a head full of dark hair. I can't tell you ecstatically happy and grateful we are. When I start thinking about everything we've been through to get here I start crying. So many years, so many procedures, so many tears and he's finally here. Tuesday, July 24, 2012. Baking with Julia: Blueberry Nectarine Pie. I've totally been slacking off on Baking with Julia.

Tuesday, May 22, 2012. For our little guy or girl, the body is done but it needs legs and arms (have to get on that) and her mouth needs glued on. I also found Rebecca's pattern for Napoleon the Nervous Narwhal. Monday, May 21, 2012. I got one of the piece I ordered off Etsy from Old Schoolhouse Stationers. I went ahead and moved the items that go into the upper cabinets in so they wouldn't get dusty sitting out in our makeshift kitchen area. Monday, May 14, 2012. This is the kitchen before (sans the cab...

short + rose: Weekend Highlights
http://roseam21.blogspot.com/2013/05/weekend-highlights.html
Tuesday, May 14, 2013. Friday night we had a fussy, feverish baby. Doug picked up takeout from here. And we (um, mainly me) watched bridal shows on TLC. Saturday morning we still had a feverish baby so we had donuts and coffee before an 11:00AM doctor's appointment. Once at the pediatrician's office our baby was no longer feverish and seemed to be feeling much better. At the zoo we realized everyone else had the same idea we did so it was pretty busy but not horribly so. George was more interested in...

Thursday, February 14, 2013. Wednesday, February 13, 2013. What I'm reading in 2013. I had read the blurb about Wild on a couple of different sites and I finally caved and read it. Again, another really wonderful book. She's brave and honest, a few spots in the beginning are pretty raw for sensitive folks but it's all part of the story. It's amazing that she was able to do what she did with so little money and experience and without being injured. Dearie: The Remarkable Life of Julia Child.
