Librarian in the Middle. Monthly Archives: July 2015. July 14, 2015 · 7:57 pm. I’ve definitely figured out my zippered pouch pattern/process. Still waiting on supplies so I can add a little wrist strap, but I feel good about these and have really enjoyed the process of making them. Also been doing some reading. I read. Did You Ever Have a Family. By Bill Clegg, and I am liking it much better. (Thanks to fellow librarian Allison for the recommendation! So, yay for summer productivity! But look at it!

Librarian in the Middle. Monthly Archives: October 2014. October 22, 2014 · 4:33 pm. It feels like things are finally settling into a sort of groove/routine in the library. A lot of book circulation, and a LOT of activity during recess and study hall times. 5th and 6th grade recess in particular is hopping. Today was a rainy day recess, and the library was packed with kids–reading, beading, sewing, tinkering, and collaborating on projects. And that’s the news from the library! Pencil pouches in progress!

Librarian in the Middle. Monthly Archives: August 2014. August 29, 2014 · 4:47 pm. Some of the new 5th graders were inquiring about the Makerspace (I haven’t done an intro yet with them), and one with an older sibling immediately figured out where the LEDs and batteries were and started playing, then checked out The Art of Tinkering. They tolerated my end-of-busy-week exhaustion very kindly! So, in the end, it was a fabulous first week of school! Now I am ready to sleep LATE on Saturday! 2 Makerspace fun...

Librarian in the Middle. Monthly Archives: September 2014. September 30, 2014 · 9:37 pm. First Activity Period: Success! Today was Day 1 of the 8-day rotation of activity periods (55 min, once every rotation). My Makerspace activity for today was Tinkering 101, but because of scheduling issues that are too boring to go into, I had some Tinkerers and some Sewers. (I’ll have Tinkerers in my Sewing activity as well, so in the end, it will balance out.). September 29, 2014 · 5:21 pm. Week in review, sort of.

So, I went to this conference: Project Zero Perspectives: Think Create Innovate. Here are some initial impressions and notes. If I wait until I have time to really dive in, this will never get done! Welcome Back!

http://reedgumenicklibrary.org/2014/08/31/welcome-back-2

August 31, 2014. We had an amazing first week back at school! Seeing so many kids after the long summer! We were busy checking out a LOT of books and hearing stories about summer fun and reading. Nothing beats coming to work at 7:30 and finding a kid waiting outside the door to get to his “favorite place at school,” the library. Softens the blow of having to get up early after a summer of sleeping in! The Makerspace is already alive with activity. We’ve had tinkering and SEW for SOS. So we could be sure ...

Librarian in the City

Librarian in the city. Musings about biomedical research data, librarianship, and science (also, my dog). Knitting and making things! Eating and drinking things! My probably not-very-good R 23andme data analysis. January 29, 2018. My mom got the whole family 23andme kits for Christmas this year, and I’ve been looking forward to getting the results mostly so I could play with the raw data in R. It finally came in, so I went back to a blog post. Okay, almost there! Now let’s remove all the stuff that...

Librarian in the Middle. November 17, 2016 · 8:06 pm. I have a new blog. For the more personal/political stuff. Will keep this space for my middle school librarian adventures, of course. 🙂. November 12, 2016 · 7:05 pm. So I will wear my safety pin. Librarian in the Mirror | A place for reflection

Librarian in the Mirror. A place for reflection. My journey into motherhood. January 11, 2013. As this blog is a place for me to practice the art of reflection, I though I’d start by reflecting on my journey into motherhood. From about the age of 16 I said I didn’t want to be a mother. I was quite prepared to be a career woman and I thought I’d die an old spinster. Things never turn out exactly how you think do they. So what changed. Aaron, my wonderful husband. So with my age ticking along, we finally d...
