NaLibrarian: What I Learnt from #IST605's Library Tour

http://librarianforthefuture.blogspot.com/2012/11/what-i-learnt-from-ist605s-library-tour.html

An LIS blog written by Kai Li, an MLIS student in Syracuse University. Sunday, November 4, 2012. What I Learnt from #IST605's Library Tour. One assignment in this semester's IST605 is that each of the students visit four libraries (they could be anywhere, but not imaginary) and write a review for each of the libraries. There is a limited scope of the reviews, but basically you can write anything about the "librariness" of the libraries. You can read my writing. There were a lot of reasonable questions&#4...

http://lizthegrad.blogspot.com/2011/09/book-place-bookbuyers.html

Bibliophilia in the Bay. Monday, September 26, 2011. On a recent trip to Castro Street (the coolest part of Mountain View), following a satisfying hamburger lunch at new restaurant SteakOut, Paul and I did the usual rounds- Red Rock Cafe, Books Inc. (Mountain View edition), and BookBuyers. BTW, speaking of, check out my new Book Places page. Will get bigger as I revisit all my book places and take iPhone pictures. Labels: Bay Area bookstores. my beautiful bookshelf: Ada, or Ardor

http://lizthegrad.blogspot.com/2011/07/ada-or-ardor.html

Bibliophilia in the Bay. Thursday, July 7, 2011. Ada, or Ardor. Vladimir Nabokov, ADA, OR ARDOR. New York: Vintage International, 1969. Acquired at a Borders somewhere. New. True Confession(z): I bought, and started, this book over a year and a half ago. What can I say? Nabokov has really florid, dense prose; this book is really long; I've been busy with grad schoolish activities; I have no tenacity. I'll say all of those things. Emphasis mine.) I think that is very apt. You know, like gone, "oh! So I gu...

my beautiful bookshelf: October 2011

http://lizthegrad.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html

Bibliophilia in the Bay. Tuesday, October 25, 2011. Last Friday I glanced in the reflection of the night-dark BART window to notice that of ten statistical standers holding on to overhead steadying bars, nine were gazing down at some glowing electronic gadget—iPods and iPads, Droids, Kindles. The tenth was maybe looking at a book, or nothing. This Friday (I take BART on Fridays) I was heartened to notice, of an undisclosed actual. Number of fellow commuters, at least seven were reading actual. Also a qui...

Bibliophilia in the Bay. Monday, July 25, 2011. A Big Box Eulogy. I feel like I should say a few words regarding Borders Bookstores’ recent passing. But I’m not sure what those words are. Like with most corporations whose services I’ve sporadically employed I feel only a faint attachment; an attachment made more tenuous by the fact that I know no human. Person who will be dramatically affected by its demise (i.e. employees; CEOs). We were kind of fair weather friends. The Seattle’s Bests. Ome people blam...

Due to a number of reasons, I failed to publish my interviews during the conference. Bibliophilia in the Bay. Sunday, June 26, 2011. Nooks and Kindles and Kobos. My boyfriend bought a Nook at Barnes and Noble the other day. Quite frankly it’s adorable. Small, black, with a muted magnetic screen that shows author caricatures when it’s asleep (Joseph Conrad – Jules Verne – Kurt Vonnegut – Oscar Wilde), snugly wrapped in a (sold-separately) navy and black leather cover, designed to look like a *real* book. Even the name is adorable. 8220;Nook.”. I like to say it. An entire bookshelf in your...

From The Basement | Learning to be indispensible

February 13, 2014 · 5:16 am. At long last, it’s time to update the Basement with a fantastic winter flannel I blatantly stole from Miss Sarah Storytime. I pieced together some cute snowmen, affixed a large piece of flannel to a cardboard square, and then hot glued the bottom of the snowmen to the scenery. 5 little snowmen standing in a row. Smiling big at the kids they know,. Out came the sun and it stayed all day,. And one little snowman melted away. September 9, 2013 · 12:02 am. How long will it last?

Sunday, July 12, 2009. ALA Day 2 Continued. ALA President's Program- The Secrecy Hangover. Libraries and Mobile Devices:Public Policy Considerations. Well, this session was certainly not what I expected. But it was really interesting. The growth in mobile device use has been incredible. Can you think of any other consumer product that has penetrated 60% of the world's population and in such a short time? The prediction is that it will be 90% by 201o. So how do libraries stay relevant? Day 1 of ALA 2009.

Library Road Trip | Photographing Public Libraries Across the Nation

September 15, 2016 · 10:57 pm. 8/2-8/7/16 Moscow, Russia. 8/2/16 – We flew from Kiev to Minsk, Belarus to Moscow on Belavia Airlines. I wondered whether or not the national airlines of Belarus would be up to snuff. But it turned out to be fine and it gave me faith that the global airlines business must operate under pretty high standards, even under the longest running dictatorship and most corrupt regime in Europe. We ended the day at the Chekov Library which is well run but struggles on its very tight ...
