Life in Beijing: The Bike Ride

Friday, May 2, 2008. I took these pictures later in the day when I went back with Jacob in the car and tried to figure out where I had been. They are all taken with my mobile phone so the quality is so so, at best.). I love these bike roads because I get a chance to get away from the touristy and business sections of Beijing and see life. I actually took this picture near our house. It is not an unusual sight for us but you don't see things like this everyday in Utah. A very dusty road. Smallville is ver...

Life in Beijing: Overloaded

http://www.lifeinbj.blogspot.com/2008/04/overloaded.html

Tuesday, April 15, 2008. One of the things I enjoy seeing in Beijing is all of the trucks and bicycles that are overloaded. For some reason, it never ceases to amaze me to see how much people can fit on a truck, a tractor, or a bicycle. I appreciate the creativity they use to see how much they can carry at one time. I have to admire someone who can fit that much on a bike and keep on texting while going down the road. He probably has a large load like that every day. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

A Postcard From Our House: August 2008

http://apostcardfromourhouse.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html

Tuesday, August 19, 2008. We've been able to see and do a lot of really fun things. Here's a rundown of some of the highlights:. Tuesday, August 12. Jake got invited to go with a friend to watch field hockey. I don't know much about what he saw, but he said it was great! He was the first in our family get to see something. Wednesday, August 13. What a coincidence to be there at the very same time they were filming some short litle segments to be shown in Utah! After the swimming was over, we walked back ...

A Postcard From Our House: June 2008

http://apostcardfromourhouse.blogspot.com/2008_06_01_archive.html

Sunday, June 8, 2008. Last week I went to the gigantic fabric market in Beijing on a treasure hunt to find some tiny white buttons and some wide pink and green ribbon. (I'll bet you can guess why I was looking for that! The market is the supplier for lots of manufacturers, so they deal in large quantities and hardly anyone there speaks any English. It's an adventure to go there! Along the way I had an interesting experience that I've been thinking about ever since. Is one of the few words that I know tha...

http://apostcardfromourhouse.blogspot.com/2008_05_01_archive.html

Tuesday, May 20, 2008. As you all know, a week ago on May 12 there was a 7.9 earthquake in Sichuan province here in China. That's about 900 miles from Beijing, but it was felt here too. (The newspaper said it was a 3.9 in Beijing.). I wasn't worried because (1) The plane had just landed and so obviously the runways were fine. How bad could it have been? 2) The school said everything was okay. Right now, eight days later, the China Daily newspaper is reporting:. 34,073 confirmed dead. It's an absolutely m...

Friday, August 17, 2007. There's kind of an interesting thing going on in Beijing this weekend (Friday, August 17 - Monday, August 20). In preparation for the Olympics, they are trying to see how much they will be able to clean up the pollution in the air- to make a better impression, I guess. A Postcard From Our House: September 2008

http://apostcardfromourhouse.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html

Sunday, September 21, 2008. Inner Mongolia (September 19-20). Then we went inside the airport and when I took the passports out of my purse I discovered that I only had four: Adam's was missing. I couldn't think where it could possibly be, then I remembered that the night before I decided to make copies of our passports- I had left it home on the printer! A sink, and a hose that could be used for a shower. It even had a little TV in there. Not bad for the grasslands of Inner Mongolia! Then we went for a ...

Monday, November 10, 2008. A Tale of Two Cities. By popular demand here are some pictures of Adam in his high school play, "A Tale of Two Cities." It was really fun to see him up on stage. He did GREAT! Yup That's Adam with the white hair and black coat. These are all the LDS kids that were in the play. With a total cast of 24 people, it was a pretty high percentage! Adam with Grandma and Grandpa Edwards. We're so glad they could be here! Sunday, November 9, 2008. A bunch of cute kids from our branch.

Wednesday, October 8, 2008. Sleeping on the Great Wall. Adam had play practice until 1:00 and Brian and I were trying to get our Thailand trip scheduled, so in our family only Erin and Jake rode the bus and Brian, Adam and I had Mr. Huang drive us up there and drop us off a little later. The rooms were basic, but clean and the grounds were really gorgeous. Breakfast Sunday morning was in the same dining room as dinner- bread, jam, fried eggs, sliced cucumbers and tomatoes, and some kind of meat stuff&#46...

I understand that you've all been interested in and learning about Chinese New Year, so here are some pictures we took during the last few weeks that will show you what it was like. Monday, October 29, 2007. We bought SO much candy to give away, but we ended up sending Adam out to buy more in the middle of then evening, and then later we had to put a sign on the door saying "Sorry. We're out of candy." That was pretty amazing to me. I don't rememeber ever running out of candy in the US, but we did here! For Jake, we bought a black cape and some white face paint for Jake and he dressed up as Dracula. Monday, October 8, 2007. Beijing Branch Survivor YW Camp. Erin and I went to YW camp...
